I shot my first deer with a bow over a decoy. A doe decoy can be used year round but a buck decoy is best used during the rut and pre-rut. A doe decoy should be placed so its looking away from you and a buck should be faced toward you. The decoy should never be down wind since deer will go 5-10 yards down wind to try and get scent of what they think is a new deer. You should also put it in an area with a good amount of open since the deer have to see the decoy to react to it. My decoy that i use is a 3-D deer target that i used to shoot at.

Decoys work great at certain times of the year. We use the Boss Buck and some time also put out a doe decoy.

I bought a "Scarface" decoy from Primos last year to take to Kansas. It was the first time I'd ever hunted in Kansas and I'd never used a decoy before. After a little research on how to set up the decoy and finding an open area that had lots of deer tracks crossing a county road, I set it out. It was my last morning to hunt and I had seen deer cross here twice but didn't have the decoy out on either occasion. I believe I would have killed a deer earlier if I had used the decoy. Anyway, on that last day I killed a 159" buck that was broadside at 20 yards sniffing my decoy that was 25 yards away. He came in and circled down wind which put him exactly where I wanted him. I set the decoy upwind and quartering to me. I promise you Scarface is going to Kansas again this year. :)

You can leave the antlers off the decoy to simulate a doe if you want.

    Good luck!

I purchased and used one of those corrugated buck silhouettes you just stick in the ground and it brought deer in. This year I am going to give Mr. October a try.

Depends on where you hunt.... In OH where I hunt theres so much pressure they dont care for them. IL ive had great luck on private property and in Indiana on private ive had great luck.

I had success with the primos scarface in kansas also. I had a nice buck come in and sniff his rear and I smoked him at no more than 20 yards.
