I just want to bump this and make sure there is enough interest....if so, I have been given the go to run this

All manner of guns qualify (as long as they are legal for your state regs)
Only members of the forum can play
All rules and qualifications will mimic the bowhunting contest (sans the weapons, of course)

I don't guess it's a bad idea. Seems kind of weird to see a gun contest on BH.Com but I've seen stranger things. I don't plan on playing in this one either, though.

I'll play, but I usually don't even shoot during the gun season.

doing this contest along with the archery one will have you choosing one or the other. most states allow one buck to be harvested and in the case you shoot it with a gun to post to the water cooler you would be hurting your team on the actual bowhunting site for the archery contest.

There is not ONE person on this site that will pass their target buck with a bow so they can score for the gun contest

    not true

Only allowed one buck here. I could shoot it with a bow or a gun... but just one.

    Same here.

Just because your states allows multiple bucks does mean every other state does as well, Tony.

im not saying they would pass up the buck, but instead of still archery hunting these same people will opt for a gun and potentially shoot their target buck. in my state that would have just ended my hunt for bucks and hurt my team for the archery contest.

Again, I do not believe ANYONE would change the way or the what they hunt for a contest that means nothing ...

I'm not so sure. I'd be lucky to sneak within bow range of a 1.5 year old buck here in the mountains. The chances of me being able to pick off a 2.5+ year old buck with my .300 win mag. is much better.

If I pass on a dink buck with my bow, I'll be letting down my team (and we're going for a three-peat) but I'd rather shoot a 2.5 yo or better buck, even if it means using a rifle.

It actually does weigh on my mind. :(
