So while on vacation I dropped my laptop and now only have, half of a screen. So rather than pay over half of what it cost new, I thought I would pick up another "Low Budget" laptop, but I don't want to go backwards.... This is the Processor I have now: Intel Pentium Intel Pentium Dual-Core T3200 Mobile Processor 2.0 GHz,1 MB L2 Cache,667 MHz FSB I know dual cores are always better but would I notice a difference with this one? If so, How so? Intel® Celeron® processor 900 Features an 800MHz frontside bus, 1MB L2 cache and 2.2GHz processor speed. OR...lol, would I be better off to drop an extra $100 for this one? Intel® Pentium® processor T4500 Features an 800MHz system bus, 1MB cache and 2.3GHz processor speed. And I guess it's worth mentioning, Mostly all My pc is used for is Internet, some music downloading, and very light video editing.... thats about it.
You don't need much processor speed for those activities. Save yourself some money and don't buy what you won't use. You could probably get a netbook and external dvd r/w (if needed) for less than $400.
I doubt you'll notice the difference. The Pentium processors are definitely better than the Celerons but for general web surfing you'll be okay with the Celeron.
DO NOT go with the Celeron!!!! I am the IT guy for my company and I can tell you that you WILL notice a difference. The difference will be all around performance. I will also tell people to take a chance on a refurbished unit. My laptop, which I use as my main PC at home, is a refurb dell that I got off buy dot com for $500 shipped. It was very high end at the time and continues to run like a champ. I could buy 2 or 3 of those for the cash you might spend on a new one.
I don't want to step on too many toes here, but a netbook is good for only one thing, and even that is debateable, surfing the internet on the go. So maybe if you fly a lot. But I highly doubt that it could handle any video editing and the performance is much less than a standard laptop.
I know, we have quite a few netbooks we give to people for travel. My wife uses one also. I set them up originally and keep them updated. They are good for surfing and downloading but, yes, video editting might be iffy, depending on the model. Too many people buy much, much more computer than they will ever use, at least in my experience. I've been doing this since '83.
