My first thought is he's a 3 and a half year old who might blow up next year so i'm gonna let him walk if I encounter him in the woods. However, he's only 1 of 2 potential hit listers I have on camera so would really like to go after him so hopefully he's older. Not sure if the pics are good enough to tell but I am brand new to the aging process so looking for a few opinions. Thanks!
I believe that's him in upper right but those 2 are so similar. I think the upper right one has a larger body (maybe a year older?) and i think it has the chipped left G4. First time i've got pics of bucks sparring! I'll add more of it later.
Not older than 3 1/2. He might even be 2 1/2. Although he appears to have a big body, those first three pictures really give a good look at his neck and head which resembles that of a younger deer. Hard one to pass, though. I've passed a couple like that in the last two years and they both got shot during gun season.
No one can guess age without a side profile picture showing how his neck connects to his brisket and his belly. Also if their legs look long (like they are a race horse) chances are they are younger than 4.5 too. Again its all a guess till they take a dirt nap and you can look at the teeth. I know of two bucks the same women killed last fall that I would have given them ages of 5.5 and 6.5 from pictures and they were both aged at 8.5 with the teeth.
Thanks everyone for the replies. I was hoping (although pretty sure it wasn't the case) he was older and starting to decline or plateaued out. It's still early so i'm optimistic more shooters will show up eventually. Note to self: buy more cameras for next year. 3 is not enough (4 sometimes if it feels like working)! Always nice to sit in stand with a few bucks on your mind that you could potentially shoot. As far as those sparring pics they're blurry so not worth posting. Wish I had the cam on video mode but on the edge of a field it would have gotten eaten up by blowing leaves in a couple days. Thx again!
he is not older than 3 and a half his neck meets way up on his body not low at the brisket like a mature deer
