Hey guys and gals. I just got a new bow and it has the D-loop on it. Until now ive always used a metal knock (not metal d-loop). I have a true fire release thats prolly 8 years old. Never had a problem out of it. But its the pincher style and i have issues getting the whole d-loop in the jaws. A couple times during practice when i would start to draw back the loop would slip out of the jaws because it wasnt seated propperly. I know a hook style release would remedy this, but are there any benefits to using one? Id hate to change gear up too much this close to season.
I'd say you're already encountering big problems close to the season... assuming you get one set to the same length as the one you're currently shooting, buying a new release (hook style or no) won't be so much of a change it would cause you problems. I shoot a hook-style TruFire Hardcore; and I really like it. Not sure what the advantages are, but I like it nonetheless.
I love the hook styles. They seem to have better triggers, by that I mean they are crisp and just break at the shot. Unlike a cheap release where you can feel the trigger engage as you squeeze. Also you can hook up to the loop without taking your eyes off the target. I have two kinds, my favorite is the Carter Quickie II. I also have a Scott Rhino as my backup, I won't go back to a dual jaw release.
I shoot a Carter with a hook. I think the advantage is mostly that it's easy to hook in to the D-loop.
i would go with the tru fire hardcore. im sure it will be really close to what you are shooting now. i like how fast and easy it is to hook the look whena deer comes in hot.
