How many Comprehensive claims can be made to a policy before your insurance goes up? We've had three: 2 deer and one big dog, and my wife just called and said she hit another one on here way home from work... and the last one was about 3 weeks ago... My insurance company has payed more to us then we have to them... 3 vehicles with Full coverage on all of them. And every claim has be set at %0 Fault on our part, just wondering if you guys have any experience in this department... I'm going to call my agent Thurs. He's closed on Wed. And I don't know how long you can wait to make a claim...
He's closed on Wednesday because it'll take him all day to figure out how much more you're gonna be charged for insurance!
"Buttonbuckmaster" and "Scot" are both Auto Insurance agents. PM them with questions Aaron. Glad your wife Is ok.
You should have a 24 hour # to call to report the accident .... as far as your rate going up, I would be more worried about being dropped .. but they have every legal right to raise your rate after that .. I feel your pain, bro ... one year I hit 3 deer in a 2 month period with company vehicles! They took the car away and gave me an allowance ....
It really depends on the insurance carrier you are with and what their underwriting requirements are. Usually its not a big deal unless you are totalling the vehicles. I would call your agent and discuss it with him to see if you can expect a rate up.
Thanks BBM, I will call him tomorrow... I did find me a fender for $195 after inspecting it when she got home, The fender is crushed... That's all I can see that's unrepairable... It looks like a pop can. I'm going to swing by my body man nd have him inspect it and tell me what it's going to need, and hopefully just eat this one... unless my agent assures me otherwise.
Man, I haven't hit a deer in a LONG time, and the last one I hit "I had to go all the way down into the ditch to get it!!!" :D Seriously, I tend to see them long before they hit me or I hit them, but maybe it's because I'm chronically looking for them as well. I had a close call a few years ago when a little doe almost ran into the side of my wife's vehicle though.
The carriers I use wont rate you up due to comprehensive claims. However, if you have what they feel is too many comp claims, they may require a higher deductible or drop you if the trend continues. Good luck.
In general, a comprehensive auto policy will cover Fire, Vandalism, Theft, and Disasters. It’s important to remember that comprehensive auto insurance does not cover damage from a car accident. Comprehensive insurance policies have deductibles — the amount of money you have to pay out before auto insurance companies start picking up the bill. The higher your deductible, the cheaper your monthly premiums. So you can save money on your monthly auto insurance bills by raising your deductible. But you could have to pay a lot out of your own pocket if you ever file a claim.
