Obviously the Indy 500 has taken a step back in the last 10 years. I am not a big racing fan and I don't watch NASCAR except for the end of the Daytona 500. But the Indy 500 is still special to me because of my dad. My dad and I used to watch it every year together. When he was younger he was there every year and was knew enough people to get into the pits and hang around some of the big wigs back then. My father past away in 2007 but I still make it a point to watch the 500 every year. I wish my dad was here to see the 100th edition of the 500 today. Are people still into the 500 these days or is it completely lost any sort of relevance?
Yup, I love Indy. When Cart and all that got into a feuid it kind of hurt Indy bigtime. I still love it.
What a great race today. The 23 year old leader crashes on the last lap on the last turn and let's a previous winner sneak by him. He almost won after crashing. I can tell you that comparing the Daytona 500 to the Indy 500 once again, the Indy 500 wins hand down again for a better race. JMHO.
I love the 500. I try to go every year. However, my run of free tickets may be at an end so I'm going to have to start paying. I listen to the entire race. this year I took my girls to the parade. I think this year the race has really gone back more towards it roots... The north 40 lot being full by 9:00, the coke lot being almost full by 9:30... Then there's always the shenanigans... a fight leading to both people stabbed, a guy broke his wife's nose, some PA guys getting arrested for evading and wrecklessness, and of course the 26 counts of public intox, which when you think about it, there are 350,000 drunk people, what could you have possibly done to make yourself stick out. What I don't like is that after Tony George left to head IRL (or Cart), the board tried to condense the festivities to 2 weeks. I'm just not a fan of this. It used to be almost every day it seems there was some event going on at the track. It was an entire month dedicated to racing. I'm not a big fan of indy cars or nascar, drag racing is hands down my favorite (Indy also hosts the Nationals) and I grew up hitting up all the little dirt circle tracks in the state.
