Looks like I will get my first official shed hunt of the season tomorrow morning. Been wanting to get out, but just keep having things get in the way. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Right at 4 miles. Found a great area to hunt next year and on the board. One old small guy and a beast.
Look familiar? Im thinking it has to be last years from the buck i shot this year. Its well preserved but i found in a super shady thick area.
I was skunked today. Went to one of my great spots and only found boot tracks. Not sure if they were shed hunting, but there is nothing else to do in there. I usually don't go in there this early. Still good buck sign in there and might be able to go back in a month and pick up late droppers. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I would say that it's the same. Great find! I did that once to a buck I shot in 2012. I pick the shed up in 2014, so that thing layed there for 3 years and was untouched. It was along a creek bank in 3 foot tall grass. Had a massive storm come in and flood the creek and knock down the grass. I was out next day shed hunting and spotted it from the farmers front porch while I was talking to him. It was 75 yards away. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Thats awesome! Yea i went to an area where i had my first encounter with this deer. Walked a trail that i had walked before but it was always low light conditions. Just the tines were popping up out of the leaves. Its amazing how good you can see now compared to even a couple months ago.
I used to know this…. The small shed i found today had what look like a folded over (melted) small tine and a hole. Pretty sure its some beetle or bug that bores in the velvet? My buddies buck had a jacked up side on its rack and it had same thing. Melted, folded over looking tine and a couple holes in the beam. Any one know ?
Found it. Bot flies or Warbles. Parasite in the intestinal tract that works through the bloodstream which ends up supplying the velvet. Interesting https://www.deeranddeerhunting.com/...etail-wisdom/whitetail-antlers-the-hole-truth
This is insane. I scored my bucks previous year shed….. exactly the same. I didnt even go back and look at the score until i added up the shed. Where he lost in places he gained in others Shed Left side This year kill Left side
That's crazy! Some bucks just don't grow much or regress some years. That buck I talked about above were I found his shed 3 years later. I have another shed of his from the year prior. So have a shed from 3 1/2, 4 1/2. And shot him at 5 1/2. Each year he only gained 2 1/2" on each antler, so 5" total per year. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Thats wild that it can stay that consistent! Check this video out to pretty neat stuff about a buck that would grow a mirror image of one side. Basically each year looked like you swapped the side from right to left. Also talks about the pedicles and how they are unique and dont change unless injured. Like a fingerprint. Stepped outside today around 4 PM and it was 71 degrees. Told myself it was to nice not to be walking. Had plans to go in the morning. Temp dropped 48 degrees in less than 4 hours. lol! Looked at the forecast. Tomorrows high is 30, feels like 15 with a low of 6! Talk about a tease... That's KS for you!
This image popped up in my facebook feed from 8 years ago today. Take those kids shed hunting every year!
