he's on his first REAL turkey hunt today... he's set up in a blind with some decoys and grampa usin a box call to bring 'em in... yesterday he got in some practice with his new Mossberg 500 20g turkey gun, kicked a bit for him but not so bad that he's afraid of it... if the birds hold true to form they should be rollin thru the blind area around 10a central time, so they should be settling into the blind about now... pics will follow as soon as I get 'em

He and I both are very excited about this cuz the turkey is gonna be frozen and will be our t-giving bird this year!!!!

morning circumstances have forced an afternoon hunt today, trail cam info tells us that they typically come back thru headin to roost between 2-3p, so they are getting loaded up and will go get everything set up to be in the blind right after lunch...

In Illinois it does. Maybe they're hunting somewhere else? I think I'm supposed to take a kid out this weekend for the youth hunt if my Dad has to work on Saturday. Forecast has a chance of rain, so hopefully things change a bit before Saturday morning rolls around. Good luck to your son, and keep us updated!

they are in AL, a quick peruse of the AL state guidelines does not specify times...

edit to add - except in wildlife refuge areas and game preserves. on private land there does not appear to be a time limit other than daylight hours...

no luck yesterday, they had a couple tom's come in and one in particular that grampa said was absolutely HUGE... beard draggin the ground... said he would have done a full strut mount instead of the fan/beard... but sadly they couldn't get 'em inside about 50yds so they decided not to risk it... before they left for the day they relocated the blind slightly and got it closer to cover as it seems the birds are really workin the pine needles on a covered "road" on the property, scratchin and rootin around... they are heading back this morn
