Same thing in my neck of the woods too. I was hoping to get out on Saturday, but I won't if it's raining Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The other night all I seen was a small buck. Im set up right now and have already seen a doe and fawn. In my hands down favorite spot (shot my buck here last year). Feels like it's gonna be a good night
2 more does far away and a huge bodied deer stood up and bedded down probably 5 times in the same spot. Could never tell what it was. Hoping it wasn't a wounded buck. Trying to decide if I should go look over there before hunting tonight. What would you guys do? It was in a cedar patch and every 20 minutes would stand up and just stand there for 5 minutes then lay back down.
I don't think that's quite enough evidence to go off of that it's injured. Seems like it could have easily just been a very cautious deer.
I'm jealous of ya though. I still have to wait 3 days before i can get out there and let my mind play tricks on me.
I'm at a lost. I smoked her I know I did for sure but there's no blood anywhere except a few drops right where I shot her. Headed home and I'll start walking circles in the morning. I know I drilled her.....I feel sick
Good thing you backed out. What color was the blood that you found. Pink or dark red? What I like to do is smell the arrow to see if it hit the guts or not. Im sure you'll find it in the morning though. The first deer I shot with a bow didn't bleed an ounce, but also didnt go more than 40-60 yards from where I shot it. Good luck tomorrow CJ!
CJ, good luck with your recovery. I'm sure you will find her if your confident in your shot placement. I see in your signature that you use Rage - my husband had an issue like you are describing a couple years back. He shot a buck and was unable to find any blood besides a few drops. We grid searched the woods as best as we could for hours. Finally decided it must have not been as good of a shot as he thought. That spring his uncle was cutting firewood and found the buck underneath a big fallen down tree in brush close to where he killed it. (Uncle actually asked if we ever looked for it) It was perfect shot placement - but the broadhead never opened up. So, it killed it - but didn't give the cut like it would have if it properly opened. Maybe something similiar. We only shoot fixed bladed ones now. Again, good luck. Hoping you aren't in this big rain cell I'm in for the next five days.
CJ, Hope you're out there searching right now. Good luck on your recovery. Bring some points home for team 18 and more importantly bring some meat home for the freezer.
Blood was bright red. I've shot a lot of animals and a lot of deer and it was one of those shots where when you release and see where it hits you just know you made a good shot. Just pulling into the land now. Will keep updated
Is it cool if i just vicariously live through you for the next 2 days while i wait for my season to open?
Found her! Thanks for the encouragement. Walked to where I last seen her found a spec and then followed blood 30 yards and never went more then 80 yards.
