Hey everyone! Sorry not around this week - it's our local fair and I'm playing farmer. Took some goats this year. Tomorrow is the last day then I have a day to do house work then it's time to fully concentrate on bow season (and prep). Opens in 15 days. Hoping my shoulder allows me to shoot more. I could barely pull my bow back the last time I shot. Only thing I can think is it started hurting after fire drill one night (testing nozzles and PSI to see what I can handle alone) - maybe pulled a muscle. Worse comes to worse, I'll go turn my bow back down to 40.
Hope that heals up in the next two weeks! Our seasons open on the same day and i'm chomping at the bits. Dont know what I would do if all of a sudden I couldn't pull my bow back.
Hopefully going to get up on Sunday to do some apple picking and hang some stands on a couple properties. I'm hoping acorns will be a limited recourse this year since last year we had so many that the phrase bumper crop would have been a huge understatement. A little late I know, but I didn't have a chance to go any time in the summer due to the physics class I took. Season opens up the 1st and hopefully I'll make it out that weekend. Season starts tomorrow here in WI and I'm all ready. I work till 6am so I plan to head home take a nap and be in a tree for the evening sit. After that me and my brother are joining up to hit some of our go to doe spots to let some arrows fly!
Just got a call from my buddies neighbor in southern il with a deer problem lmao he wants me to take out anything I can cause there destroying his crop fields I guess . it's a 4 and a half hour drive so im going in late October and in November .I'll only be able to make it down there 2 maybe 3 times this year but I can also hunt my buddies 90 acres that's next door so I should be putting some kind of points on the board in some way once October hits here in illinois.
Didn't see anything in the morning. Had a doe fawn and a nub under me last night. Also 6 more about 100 yards out. I'll try to smoke one tonight
Hey man you wanna split gas I like taking deer out and I'm in southern wi right in the border. All we seen yesterday was turkeys. Set up currently over this giant scrape.
Locked and loaded for the first sit of the season. A tad warm and with the wet fall it is mosquito haven!
Good luck out there guys! Put up 4 stands today (2 for bow, 2 for both bow and rifle). The first spot it hit had a great amount of sign including multiple trails with in 20 yards and multiple rubs in those 20 yards as well. Neighbors decided to come in and cut a bunch of the golden rod and roto till that land for no reason so they're going to hear it from me when I catch up to them. Productive day but im beat. Property owner at the other property tells me he see's does every day at 7am so maybe ill go there and smoke a doe early.
Hung my stand today. Had to find a new spot as our honey hole was a dud. Great sign, buck and doe poo all around me. Nice shooting lanes 15 yards, max. I got a few small bucks on camera there - but friend (property owner) has a monster on his camera. I'm on the other side of ravine from him, so they usually come down to my area. Hoping for good luck. Good luck, Aaron. Glad you're seeing deer on your first sit!
I would say there +95% effective. Mosquitos are bad right now. Absolutely need it. One of the best things ever made
Congrats HS for getting us on the board and getting some meat in the freezer! As for the Thermacell - worth EVERY penny! Our archery season usually isn't that bad for mosquitos (though, it's been warm here lately) - but it's been a life saver during spring gobbler.
I pulled the trigger last week. Should show up in the mail just in time for my October 1st opening kill day.
