Took a shot at a doe this morning, hit that leg knuckle bone. Broke my broadhead and insert clean off. Just 2 inches right and would have been a heart shot. From the live thread this morning: So I tracked blood down the next ravine, out to a fire road, down the fire road, across another ravine, crossed the road again, up a hill and onto private land. Biggest spot was where she stood after the shot. After that blood trail was decent but faded to nothing after she crossed the road the second time. She was meandering too, probably feeding so it couldn't have been that bad. Shot was perfect elevation for a heart shot, just hit that knuckle. Perfect setup too, out in front at 15 yards. Bummed. I suppose that's it for me this morning.
Hey Guys: Update time. I've been hunting the last 3 weekends, 5 sits total. Last night (sit number 5) I saw the 10 point. I call him B Day. Cuz the first time I got him on camera was on my birthday 10/10 and he's a 10 pointer. Anyway he is definitely the biggest buck to date that I have seen in the woods with a bow in my hand. Everything was going as planned but when he approached my bait he needed to take 2 more steps. 3 maple trees were covering his front shoulder all the back, so no shot except for his chest and neck. Not an ideal shot for me. I thought about it, but passed up on it. Well he was 20 yards for 5 minutes eating on the edge and I couldn't take the shot. He kept looking up at me but he wind was good, however he noticed something wasn't right, backed up and then took off. He didn't snort and didn't have his tail up but he's smart and knew something wasn't right. So Bday lives to see another day. Hope I get another shot at him. Also I have a new buck on camera.
Went out Friday evening. It was s pretty windy day I knew in the area I was hunting that day if anything moved it was going to be last light. Sure enough I start packing up with a few mins left of legal shooting time and the eight pointer comes in. I don't notice him until he's at 20 yards rubbing on a small hemlock... Then he starts crunching on some scorns and makes his way into my shooting lane.. He stops and smells the evercalm I had put on a tree in front of my stand he keeps moving and I let my arrow fly at 8 yards I heard the blades deploy on my kill zone perfect shot right behind his leg and it stopped dead because it hit the opposite leg, arrow snapped off as he ran... he went about 65 yards and fell over!!
shot this bad boy this morning. Weighed 209lbs field dressed. Score to come. public land deer, had to drag his fat a** a mile back to the car. Exhausted but excited to had him,my biggest deer to date and my first buck with a bow. He was chasing a doe at 8:30.
Good job on all the deer fellas. My season has been a bust so far. I've only logged about 7 hours total tree time this year. Hopefully I can get lucky soon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
thanks, I just posted him to the scoreboard. 126 6/8". Been busy butchering, still have more to go. Amazing how much meat was packed on this deer!
My vacation starts on Saturday. Cabin owner shot a nice nine pointer yesterday. We have all three target bucks out there and I'm the only guy hunting! Real test starts Saturday!
