Sorry I've been out of the loop for a while guys. This Butte Fire out here in northern CA has threatened both my mother and fathers houses for the last 4 days. Thought we almost lost my dads place yesterday but when the smoke cleared, it was still there. I've been driving over 3 hours round trip for the last 3 days checking on them and helping some other folks in the area. 65,000 plus acres burned and about 85 homes lost so far. Luckily it hasn't affected any of our hunting land and at this point, just glad no lives have been lost. If it weren't for Justin, we'd have the lead still but man he killed a hell of a buck! I'm definitely gonna check out Dustin's setup at Big Horn Outfitters!
Hey guys, sorry I've been gone. Just returned from a NM elk hunt. Going to hit the whitetail woods this weekend and hopefully get a doe pretty fast. Then ill wait and see if i can get a good buck later on, unless he comes out first! here's my elk i got on the last day of my hunt, 30 mins from dark, I thought for sure i was going home with a tag sammich! haha
Awesome job Z7 on a great Elk, Good job. Definitely one of my "dream hunts" to add to the bucket list.
Update time: Well Guys I haven't made it to the stand yet. Mostly because of a lot of things. I have had a bad cold, I'm due to have oral surgery to remove my wisdom teeth next week, and also that it has just been way to warm to sit in the stand. With that said once the cold is gone, done with the surgery it should be cooler by then and I will be aiming for a doe! Another note is that last Sunday I sort of had an interview to be apart of a hunting cabin that is near me. My girlfriend's golf partner's husband is currently looking for another hunting guy in their group. So on Sunday I met him for the first time and he basically probed me with all the basic questions regarding hunting. After that we went to his cabin and he showed me around. I was very impressed with his whole operation. He owns 40 acres that is surrounded by some 3000 acres of county forest which is inaccessible to the public to a certain point. He said he wants another guy to join their group simply because they don't have enough guys. I believe it's like 3 guys that hunt all of this property and that is it. Well after chatting with him and seeing things, then having dinner I must have gave him a good enough impression that he said he would give me a chance to join their hunting group. This Sunday he is going to show me the ropes and go over the rules. I'm really excited. It's big woods country in northern Wisconsin! To me it doesn't get any better! I will update you guys once I figure out what is happening with it. I'm still going to put down a doe in the property that I am currently hunting because I have a tag, then focus my buck efforts in the big woods country!
Shot my bow with broad heads today. Got her tuned in and shooting straight! Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
Well guys I have yet to get out in a tree stand. Yesterday I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed and it's going to take awhile to heal I'm thinking. On a great note, the cabin I have talked about looks like a go. The owner will soon be giving me a set of keys and explained to me all the rules. Seems like a great situation and hope it pans out. Good luck to all who is already hunting! Once I get in the tree I'll be trying to put down a doe!
Went out last night to try and take some does out before the rut to manage our herd a little and an old management buck came out grunting and chasing deer around. Would have loved to got him with my bow but not disappointed because it was a great hunt and should be able to post more points than him. First deer i shot with a gun in a few years.
Update for me: Made it out all last weekend. I was able to stalk a doe from 70yds to 30yds then got busted. Seen quite a few bucks but couldn't close the gap below 60yds. On the plus side I'll be able to get out again from Friday afternoon to Monday night. Congrats on the buck Z7
