Only a couple more days. I have managed to get out and cut some of the overgrown path. But, I doubt I will be done by opening day. Especially with the forecast. Hopeful to spend at least a little time in the stand over the weekend.
Should be doing some combining near a couple stands today so I am hoping to get a couple cameras checked that I haven't checked in some time. Deer are really active from what I can tell driving around the countryside. Will be trying to get sits in from here on out as much as my time allows between field work.
Sat afternoon I passed on a young 9 point on my lease. I have a couple older bucks that I am trying to connect with so the young buck got a pass. It sure was hard to pass up within 15 yds. Sunday afternoon was one of if not the best hunt I have ever had. I brought my 10year old daughter out for a crossbow hunt. We started the afternoon out seeing 3 turkeys but none had a beard. not long after the turkeys left we had 4 does within 20 yards but they stayed in the thick, no shot. Just before we were going to call it a day we had a single doe come in to 20 yards broadside. My daughter was able to make her first bow kill. Perfect shot and deer dropped in site. This was an amazing hunt, I am still excited. It is finally starting to cool down a little, low 80's high 70's in the afternoon. I will be spending more time in the tree now that I can tolerate the weather conditions a little better. I hope to put some points on the board and some more meat in the freezer over the next couple days.
Got some more path cleared. Had a 100"ish basket racked buck about 5 feet from the truck. Then saw a few does on the way out. Things are looking up.
I've made it out 2 times so far and have seen a lot of bucks! Seen several bucks yesterday evening with 2 of them being 115"ish 8s and lots of sparing going on. Went to another property this morning and seen 2 of the bucks that I'd love to shoot but they passed the stand way before it was light enough to make out much more than their racks. It's supposed to warm back up for a few days, here, so it might be a while before I get back out. Good luck to everyone!
Opener is tomorrow for us. I will most likely not be making it out until the evening (if that). We're going to have some wet conditions in the morning, and I have to run to Allentown in the morning. Hopefully I make it back in time for at least an hour or two sit in an observation stand.
Season starts here tomorrow as well. Just don't know when I will have a chance to get out there. Im waiting for it to cool down and the mosquitos go away.
Opener here in Indiana tomorrow as well ... pulled card in a kill plot yesterday and see I had some young bucks hanging around there for over 1/2 hour yesterday morn ... bring on some big boys !!
Finally got one camera checked and had this nice one on it. Click on it; it's a video. Good luck to anyone out this weekend!
Two days of season have already passed and still have not made to the woods I'm going this morning after my last day of 16 straight nights as far as shooters go on my property I have only had one show up and even he's not that great but he will do just fine to put a smile on my face and a fast rhythm in my heart I think I might try my luck at some public land this year anyone have any tips?
Finally made it to the woods to hunt instead of work. Saw 3 bucks this morning. No shots were taken. either too early, too far, or moving too fast. Put up a new stand yesterday for my nephew. It will be his first hunt this coming weekend youth season. He saw the same buck I have seen the past few days and has his eye focused on him. If I see him, He may get a pass so the nephew can have a shot at him.
My first chance to get out will be this weekend, but I've seen the same deer that short69 has. We have pictures on the camera that was by one of my stands of another big 8 from last year that, if I had to guess, is about 4 years old this year.
Low of 29 tonight. Lots of rain so won't be combining so should get out a couple times this weekend. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
Congrats on the doe. Im still hoping to make it out and sit soon. I did get to throw some corn out and set a camera on it just to see what I can see on two diff spots. One spot is deer and across the field by a tank is all pigs. Here is a pic from each spot. The times are for after the time change.
