Dude. Forget P&Y. We need to consider the final gospel word and that is the BHC deer hunting contest. Case closed!!!

Why does the greatest bowhunting club on the planet not allow them to be entered?

For those that look down at cross bows, do you look down at a hunter that shoots a smaller 8 point or smaller racked buck as well?

My logic is if you consider a cross bow less what else do you look down on? Why not just be happy for a successful hunter unless it is buck envy

Different strokes I guess.. but its not for me. I stopped using a shotgun when I was a kid because I found it to be too easy but my uncle stopped using compounds and went to a long bow for the same reason. That being said in my state only the disabled and seniors can use xbows and Im ok with that.

Yes but evidently the method makes the hunter?

What you are missing is that I feel Xbow kills are not on the same level as vertical bow kills and I don't look down at them. I may even pick one up soon and use it from time to time.

Not at all. Everything consider the same; meaning hunter, treestand location, time of year and everything...what is harder or takes more skill/practice to accomplish a harvest with is what this discussion is about. Hence why a lot of people have to say no to the OP's question.

It has 0% to do with evaluating the hunter or whether or not you'd be happier for the hunter depending on the weapon used, it is merely a question is taking an animal with "x" instead of "y" the same in your mind or not.

By saying that they are not on the same level you ARE looking down at them.

And to add. This thread is in no way meaning to rip on or degrade Xbow hunting whatsoever.

Honestly have never wasted time thinking about it...you bagged your game legally -Congrats!

I don't own a crossbow - but would have no problem hunting with one if asked to for a particular hunt and that kill would be no less.

My opinion is if someone is injured or physically handicapped and it enables them to use a compound bow then a crossbow is perfectly fine to use. Other than that I definitely put an asterisk next to someone's name that shoots a deer with a crossbow or gun. Also if a hunter kills a deer with traditional gear that kill is double as impressive to me as someone that kills it with a compound. Like I said this is just my opinion and I know not all of you will agree with it. I wish there was no gun season here in Illinois!

If the definition of the law states cross bows are legal archery weapons, they are on the same level in the eyes of the law and definition, so a contrary view point wouldn't be logical.

Not really, I think VS posted it best.

A crossbow makes it easier, it doesn't guarantee a shot.

How many people have had to let down a bow or plant an arrow in the ground due to a bad angle or no shot due to fatigue? How many crossbow hunters have?

I still don't look down on method or hunter, but it is definitely advantageous, but at the same time nothing wrong with it either. The hunter put themselves in position to make the shot regardless of weapon.

It's more of, would the outcome have been the same if using a regular bow?
