I think that if a gun is used in a shooting in any instance, not only in schools, by a youth, that the registered owner should be held responsible for not securing the gun. If you have a gun in your night stand then lock it, or check that it is there every night. I think that if we start holding the parents accountable for their lack of parenting then more people will keep track of there stuff. Now obviously there are other ways to get guns, but I think this would be a good start. All I know is that growing up I would have gotten the crap kicked into me if I thought of taking my dads gun without asking. Whats worse is that kid posting videos and the parents see it, then they don't do jack. They should be in jail.
The only thing that changed in the recent years, is they starting adding anything that happened around the school as a 'school shooting'. So the list is slightly skewed. Plus I am sure the amount of data they have access to now is far greater and farther reaching. But counting a guy killing his wife in the parking lot and then going home and killing himself as a shool shooting is kind of a joke. Or a kid bringing a knife to shcool and being shot by a officer in self defense. I think the media has a huge affect on it as many have said.
