Cute little bugger... Almost looks like he could be a family pet.

How do you tell the difference between a Pine Martin and a Fisher? I have a trail cam pic of one of them but don't know which. After googling them, it seems that the Martin lives way north of me. I'm located 25 miles NE of Lacrosse, WI. Thanks.

Fisher's are bigger, and around here, darker. Martens ears look bigger relative to their heads too. Marten weigh 1-4# as opposed to Fisher that are 4-18#.

Thanks for the info. It's still kind of hard to tell what I've got because the animal is all by itself with nothing to comare it to. When I get home from work I'll try to post the pic of it and see if you guys can tell.

Can't wait to see the pic!

    Here's a couple fisher photos:

You can see how their ears look smaller. The fur is a bit darker, and they generally lack the lighter/reddish patch on the chest like the marten has.

Size wise, the marten is similar or slightly smaller than a house cat, where a fisher is a bit bigger.

When I've seen the fishers running through the woods they've seemed almost black.

He or she is probably hunting the red squirrels that come to eat your bird seed. A man made food chain. LOL

Yeah, I got all kinds of them..... deer, turkeys, squirrels, etc., but no more Fishers or Martens.
