Just trying to keep up with my PA brethren! I've seen some nice PA bucks on this site the past few weeks and it's been getting me pumped. After missing what should have been an easy shot earlier in the week (http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?41186-Heartbreak-Hotel&p=571712#post571712) I finally connected on an 8 point buck this morning. This is my second season bowhunting and first kill. This buck roamed in following a young doe, which thankfully i passed up - i had a feeling there was more than one deer coming in. Anyway, i've made a lot of rookie mistakes since picking up my first bow last year, but came into this season much better prepared thanks to BH.com. I've learned a lot reading your posts religiously so thanks to everyone.

Here is a short video (from a Contour Roam) that i uploaded of the shot: https://contour.com/videos/watch/first-buck

After he stepped into my lane, i stopped him at about 26 yards. Put a pretty good shot on him, he crashed shortly after leaving my sight and probably didn't travel much more than about 30 yards. The NAP killzone was incredibly effective, and blood trailing (while not even necessary) would have been a breeze. Very thankful for a quick kill.

the trailcam shot is the buck i missed on tuesday - pretty similar looking buck but a bit bigger than the one i tagged this morning. It's been nice to see some bigger bucks on the property now that the rut is kicking in. i spent all summer and early fall looking at pictures of spikes and forks.

Congrats on your buck! I just looked up that camera...not a bad price. Trying to figure out which type of mount you used though? Looks kinda low to be on your head.

And trim that branch, haha! :poke:

I was just wearing the headstrap mount. I experimented with mounting it on the bow while target shooting but the vibration from the shot was way too dramatic. You can actually see the circular mount still affixed to the bow in the video.

It did the trick but it's a pretty wide angle lens with a huge field of view.

Oh yeah, didn't realize until reviewing video that the branch coulda been a problem. I think I'll settle my climbing stand a few inches lower next time. I ended up with less clearance than I anticipated

Very nice shooting. I almost got a shot on an 8 pointer this past saturday in 5C. He was only at 25 yards, but didn't come out behind the brush that he came in behind. So it looks like I have to do some trimming, but I feel pretty confident that he will come in again this season.
