I finally tagged a public land buck last night. A buddy of mine and myself decided to take a look at some lakefront public property on Tuesday and were blown away with all the deer sign. I found a spot that just LOOKED like a place bucks would hang out. So I decided that would be where I would hunt. We hunting Thursday afternoon and I saw a mature doe that skirted me without ever offering a shot. After sleeping on it that night and thinking about it that day, I knew I needed to move my stand about 60yds closer to what I though their bedding area was. I setup 60yds from where I had the evening prior and was ready to go by 5pm. I was running later than I thought but I was positive that these deer were moving later in the afternoon. Anyway, this guy came to investigate my grunt call and got into a fight with my PSE and a Carbon Express Maxima tipped Spitfire. It's obvious who won. After a 2.5 hour drag, we had him back to the truck. Not my biggest buck by far, but I consider it one of my biggest accomplishments. Now I'm out the door to go scout Catoosa for another wall hanger!
