Of course this is purely opinion. I've listened to Alter Bridge for quite a few years, and I always thought they were one of the rare bands that sounded better live, particularly because of Myles vocal range. He and Brent Smith of Shinedown are at the top of my list of current rock vocalists that have an amazing range. What are your thoughts?

Here he is with Slash from GNR (he has collaborated a lot with him in the past as well as Slash's newest album).

Myles Kennedy is a great vocalist but I like Chester Bennington of Linkin Park the best.

I don't get the joke Vito but doesn't really matter...

I've seen enough live music by high profile bands to have an opinion...

    Nirvana
    Pink Floyd
    Rolling Stones
    Pearl Jam
    Kidd Rock
    Dave Mathews Band
    Allman Brothers Band
    Bob Dylan
    Tom Petty
    Van Halen
    GNR
    Sound Garden
    Chili Peppers
    Metalica
    ACDC

    To name a few

Myles is pretty good, but Axl is hands down my favorite.

He doesn't sound this good anymore, but this is incredible.

It's not silky smooth like Freddie Mercury's, but it's dirty, raspy, and powerful. Just how rock and roll should be.

Chester is definitely up there as one of my favorites but got to agree with a couple of others that Brent Smith is number one. Aaron Lewis from Staind second. Myles would come in third. Then Chester.

Myles is great IMO. He blew Axle out of the water when he preformed for G-N-R when they got inducted into the hall of fame last month. Well, that is if Axle would have shown up.

Like anything in life, the "best" question is always subjective. Some people like clean, powerful vocals, while others like the gritty, raspy stuff. Whatever floats your boat.

When it comes to pure rock vocals, and having a powerful voice it's very close between Myles and Brent. They have very similar styles & sounds. I'd give a slight nod to Brent, just b/c I personally prefer Shinedown's overall sound more than AB.

Aaron Lewis has a great voice as well, but he's not nearly as powerful as those two guys, although I do personally prefer Staind's older music much more than Shinedown or Alter Bridge. Despite my preference, I would be hesitant to say he's better.

Chester from Linkin Park is good, but not great. Having seen the live numerous times throughout their career, I was never all that impressed. The studio does a lot for him IMO.

Eddie Vedder? Yeah, not so much. Pearl Jam certainly wasn't built on Eddie's chops, that's for sure.

Axl? Back in his day the guy had killer vocals. He could hit notes that most guys could only dream of if their cajones were in a vice. Now? Not so much. He needs to just go away forever and quit ruining people's memory of how great he was.

There's a lot of good singers out there in more hardcore/metal bands that don't get a chance to flex their pipes as much simply b/c of the type of music they make. One of my personal favorites is Jesse Leach of Killswitch Engage/Times of Grace. The dude can flat out sing - when he's not screaming of course.

    Umm...actually...they were

But, this entire thread is nothing more than opinions.

I simply picked the singer I enjoy listening to the most.

BTW....Rolling Stone picked Eddie as the 7th best lead singer of ALL TIME...so take that smart guys :)

I've seen half the guys on this list live before
