Thanks! Being a former fat kid, I am highly motivated to never return to being the 100lbs overweight teenager that I was. I will admit, that since I manage a university fitness facility as my job, staying consistent is easy for me. I would have a harder time if I had a different career path that forced me to make extra time for the gym like most people do.

I've always heard that if something is important to you, you'll make time for it.

I used to work out after work back in the day. After having my first kid I stopped doing that because it just wasn't feasible without my wife wanting to murder me. It took a long time until I realized I needed to make time to work out in the mornings. Getting up at 4:30 is never fun, but it's important, so I do it anyways.

That is what I would be doing if it wasn't so easy for me to use my lunch break. Good for you for sticking with it!

So I absolutely hate running. HATE IT. If you put me in a gym and gave me the option to do anything I wanted, getting on a treadmill and running would be the absolute last thing I would pick. I've hated it since I was a kid and would dread the day we had to "run the mile" in gym class.

This morning I decided to suck it up and get on the treadmill. Simply because I didn't want to do it and have been putting it off for years. I think the last time I ran was probably 4 years ago when I was getting ready for a Spartan race, and even then I did it sparingly. So today was the day.

I managed to run an entire mile without stopping and without getting winded surprisingly. This was after a 20 minute HIIT workout on the elliptical and almost an hour of lifting. My knees and back didn't hurt like they usually do, and I could have easily kept going awhile longer. Honestly, I was super surprised. I think 4 months of working out 4-5 times a week, eating good, and dropping 30 lbs has actually helped. Imagine that.

It's not much, but for me, it was huge.

    Trap Deadlifts for 4 reps per set: 145lbs, 195, 235, 295, 295, 295

5 rounds of Weighted Pull ups @ 20lbs and Push Ups, 5 reps each without stopping between rounds. Did an easy 20 minute walk on the treadmill after that.

I know I'm training hard enough when my body is sending me signals to stop. Haha. Bring it. 2021 season I'm gonna be back to form.

Wife and I ran out to Moab. Lots of good ways to get training in out here. Ran 6.5 miles this morning and then biked 22 miles.
    Stay after it!

Your heart is strong from those HIIT workouts. Translates to good running. Good work!

As for me, a good workout before work keeps me from getting fired. Helps keep my thoughts to myself. Haha

I looked down at the scale a few weeks ago and saw 245. My workouts were good but my beer drinking tripled after my buddy passed away. Those 7 to 8 lbs came on quick! Not having a beer until I'm 235. Been almost 3 weeks of no beer and I can see lbs coming off. Come on 235..I need a Budweiser!

Hit the 3 mile mark today on the hike; 20% incline with a 35lb pack in 60 minutes. I burned 1182 calories in 60 minutes. I am going to hold that pace for a few weeks until it doesn't feel quite so challenging. I will then gradually work toward increasing the incline until I can get 3 miles at 30% in 60 minutes. I may have to buy a new pack for training. The pack I keep in my office for these indoor training hikes is cheap and the straps get really uncomfortable with more than 35lbs in it. I have better packs at home that I use when I have time to hike with heavier weights.

Today was a "rest" day for me. Stayed home and rode the spin bike this morning. 5 min warmup, 20 min tabata intervals, 20 min free ride/cool down. Managed to work up a good sweat and burn about 600 calories.

Tomorrow is Pull day and hopefully some stairs if my legs are feeling up to it. May have overdone the incline leg press yesterday. Loaded up 4 plates per side for 4 sets of 10. Assuming the sled is 75 lbs that 435 lbs. I was feeling it when I got done.

    Solid work guys!
Completed the “Cleveland Virtual half marathon” this morning. Definitely not as much fun without the crowds and support staff. We made the best of it.
Stopped at the in laws at mile nine for bathroom breaks and Gatorade.

Definitely not getting any faster. Time was 20 minutes slower than two years ago.
Wife was kind enough to run at my pace. Think she is going to keep training for a full marathon. If I was 35 I would probably join her but at 50 I need to focus on maintaining muscle mass.

    Stay after it guys!
