Bootcamp class this morning. 12 different exercises (some with weights some body weight). 60reps each, cardio in between each exercise. Your own pace...

    Take away-choose your weights carefully!

7 mile run today in 1:20. My hamstrings and back were a little sore from dragging deer yesterday, but i didn’t feel all that bad running. Now I can pretty much eat whatever I want tonight!

Upper body lift yesterday followed by a 30 minute walk on the Alpine Runner that we just had installed in the fitness center on Friday. It is basically a treadmill with incline on steroids. This thing will go to a 30% incline, great training for the mountains. Most standard treadmills will only go to 15%. I did 30 minutes at 20% at 3.0 mph without any additional weight. That was hard enough. I am going to have to work into this with weight. On the plus side, I should be in fantastic shape for my elk hunt next year.

Trainer has been hitting the shoulders/arms and legs hard on Tues via Tabata. Tomorrow stationary cycle will target cardio, legs and lactic acid tolerance.

Hit my bird legs pretty hard yesterday. Today I hit the snooze button hard twice so my four mile run turned into a two mile run.
Rutcation starts this weekend I'll only be training when I'm not hunting.

    Stay after it.

Actually, a variation is on the todo list along with Bulgarian weighted squats.

Both complements of a email with a link to this blog post: https://mtntough.com/blogs/mtntough-blog/4-always-ready-exercises-everyone-should-know

I will do a variation of the lunges they mention, while on a hike around the neighborhood. A walking lunge up a hill (even 5 or 10 degrees)
for as long as you can go...it's eye opening, lactic acid leg burning hell.

Keep at it boys and girls! for some reason, my strength is through the roof. I weighed in at 149 lbs this morning and went to the gym and did 5 sets of 3 reps on the bench at 260 lbs. I am still running 1.5 miles 4 times a week and calories per day are just under 2000. I am walking about 4-5 miles every saturday in the woods...I thought Id be weak as all get out by now, but I am getting stronger. I have always had good strength on flat bench but this is beyond expectations. I just turned 45 in Aug and I can't believe that I can be this fit..high protein, low fat and heavy lifting has worked for bodybuilders for decades...been working for me for decades as well....good luck yall, and keep at it.

    Good work man!

Im getting real close to 230 lbs. I havent been at 230 or below in 5 years. I am going to do it while on vacation. 215-220lbs would be my ideal weight if I can get there but for now Im focused on 230.

Brett, you can get there. one of the things that used to do a lot was not count anything but fat grams. for your size, I would limit the grams to 50 a day for 4 weeks. you will drop the weight. If you are eating over that now. Everything else don't worry about. Fat grams carry the most calories. you cut them, you cut \, period.

Did a light upper body lift and easy walk yesterday. Will do another easy walk and stretch today. I am lightening up the workouts this week to rest a bit before hitting the woods hard next week.

Here's a question I kinda wanted to throw out. For those of you who work out but have had some significant injuries through sports or accidents or whatever, have you guys recovered to pretty much 100% or do you keep some limitations in mind when working out. Especially those with like knee or shoulder injuries, those joints, sometimes I have that fear that I might just blow the part out again if I go too hard

I'm not 100%, maybe 90%. My right shoulder is jacked, right ankle impaired, mishealed vertebrae, and increasing aches and pains as I age.

Having said that, I feel 300% better than I did 5-6 years ago, before losing 50+ lbs by making exercise and diet priorities.

Start slow. If you're working with a trainer /coach let them know areas of concern, they often have alternatives or can help focus on strengthening weaknesses.

This 54 yo body did 23 miles stationary cycle, including sprints, hills, hops, etc. this morning.

Since my shoulder surgery I have backed off on certain exercises and the volume of work I was giving my shoulders. I don't use it as an excuse not to lift heavy or train hard I'm just smarter about it and stick to more shoulder friendly lifts/grips/etc and don't go crazy with tons of volume.

So that hike up camps killer hill helped me out. I hit my first goal weight today. That weight was due Dec.31 at my next Dr appointment so near Two months ahead of schedual. Losing 2-4 #s a week to week and a half.
Now I've been honest on being over weight, so until I hit my next goal #'s will stay with me. Though I'm honest to say half way there.
It's amazing, I am very active , exercise, work as hard as any man out there to be accurate. I just kept gaining and then leveled out to my top weight for 15 yrs.
I finally had my Dr say your glucose intolerant, which is a prediabetic state, cut the carbs. Now every indication was I'd been intolerant for years yet never caught in all my blood work??? I have been in pain for years and years. Even with the torn ligaments, ripped out ACL, knee surgery for the torn meniscus, the dislocating shoulder, arthritis from breaks and spains through out my life and spine pain, I was never told about over all inflamation issues and causes.
I cut the carbs , immediately started losing weight , literally saw the swelling around knees and shoulder go away and my pain has been cut 75%. It's amazing how just one eating change can effect your life. I went to camp yesterday with water and a bottle of electrolytes got home around 5 pm having not eaten all day from 6:30 the evening before. I never thought about eating once. Had a great dinner and was full. I'll never be 115#'s as I was on my wedding day but Im hoping to be at the weightI was when I decided to have our second child.
I tell you guys this because much of this is all hormonal. We all have hormones, so if your seeing changes as you age, don't ask about just diets, ask about hormone levels , vitamin deficiency and how these control inflamation and weight.
Think... How do Dr's make money....

1000rep day. 3/4 were legs/cardio (Jack's, squats, lunges, high knees, skaters, 3 line shuffles... 2 is 1 as applicable... Plank rows, pushups, crunches, rows). Legs feel good, shoulders not so good. Completed in about 45 minutes.
