Hiked about three miles with my pack while hunting on Saturday. Spent most of Sunday afternoon trimming limbs too close to the house off the oak in the front yard and cutting it for firewood. Monday, since I was off, I spent an hour with my youngest working on his wrestling techniques while his older brothers had practice with the school team.

Back in the weight room today for strength and conditioning:

    Power Cleans 6 x 2 @95, 95, 115, 115, 115, 115
    Front Squats 4 x 6 @135
    Farmer's Walk 3 x 30 yards with 40lb DBs
Jump Rope 30 seconds after each set of strength exercise, 1 min rest between sets for a 1:1.75 work to rest ratio.

Max testing this week as I set the parameters for a new training program.

    Power Clean: 205
    Front Squats: 250
    Split-Jerks: 155
    Overhead Press: 165
    Back Squats: 315
    Bench Press: 300
    Deadlifts: 425

Starting next week the program will be one or two of these lifts per day focusing on building either max strength or explosive power. In addition to this, starting January 1st, I began a push up per day of the month program: on the first I do one push up, on the 2nd-two push ups, and so on until doing 31 push ups today. I am working increasing my frequency of pull ups so that on March 1st, I start doing this with pull ups as well.

Well guys today is a big milestone for me. It is the 10yr anniversary of starting my weight loss program. I began on the first Monday that occurred after my 60th birthday in 2015. What motivated me was seeing all the people I dealt with in my daily routine at the hospital. I saw so many people, many of those younger than me at the time, who were just losing their ability to basically live life. Sometimes it was because of a medical condition but sometimes it was their lifestyle. But they had one thing in common; the less they did, the less they COULD do, and the less they COULD do, the less they did. It was a vicious cycle. As I thought about that, I realized at age 60 I was very healthy ànd if I was ever going to fix things it had to be now. I began the program weighing 275- that's more than 100lbs overweight for me. My initial goal was to lose 75lbs but as I got closer to my goal I decided I would lose an additional 15lbs. I ended up losing 110lbs overall. I can't begin to explain the difference it has made for me. I have boundless energy and more stamina than when I was 50. Having been on diets before, and making many mistakes, there's something I learned this time that caused me to have PERMANENT success. Losing weight and getting healthy is not a goal, it is a journey! I think once you understand that you will be more likely to have permanent success. I want to say that I am nobody special. I have made all the mistakes in the past, but if I can do this, anyone can. I also know that at age 70, as I now am, anything can happen. But I intend to live life as fully as I can for as long as I can. I know this is a long post but I just want to encourage anyone who might be on this journey or may by considering a new beginning, IT CAN BE DONE! God bless you all, my brothers!

That is awesome! Nursing homes would go out of business if everyone your age had that attitude and work ethic.

Jim that’s an awesome journey, congrats!!! I started my own weight loss journey this January, so far I’m down just about 20lbs, goal is to drop a total of 60. I started tracking my food intake trying to stay at about 1800 calories a day and started doing some hit workouts every morning followed by 30-45 minutes on the stairs. Feels great to start losing the weight!!

Heck yeah, fellas! I'm loving the energy and positivity in here lately. Keep it going!

I'm planning on giving 75 Hard another shot when we get back from the NWTF show in about 2 weeks. I completed it once in 2023 and got to about 50 days last year before falling out. This time around, I'm planning on documenting the whole thing and putting it on YouTube for the heck of it. I remember the first time I did it; I watched a lot of videos and got advice from people on how to best approach things. I figure maybe I can give back to the greater good and help a few people out along the way. Plus, it will help keep me motivated to finish this time.

On a related note, we stepped up the home gym a bit because my oldest son wants to start working out more. We added in a new adjustable bench, a set of adjustable dumbbells, and a battle rope for some arm/shoulder work. That's in addition to the bands and kettlebells we already had. My plan is to put some basic workouts together that my son and I can do together.

How are bands working out? I am needing to do something for my shoulders. Rotator cuff issues. Having issues with popping in my shoulders while pressing weight overhead. I need to do something different as it is getting worse and affecting my bow pull.

I mainly use them for warmups and light workouts, but they work great. I actually stole them from my wife because she didn't like them. We have the flat bands without handles which doesn't bother me, but she "needed" to have the handled ones.

Overhead press is the killer of many shoulders, that is no doubt. I try to avoid pressing much weight and usually opt for lower poundage and more reps instead.

I took it easy this morning, but it beats sleeping in! I spent 30 minutes / 3 miles on one of the new elliptical machines. They're tough to describe, but I would call them more of a combination between a traditional elliptical and a stair machine. The steps are more vertical and free-floating rather than moving horizontally along a track.

I followed that with chest flies, tricep extensions, curls, straight arm pulldowns, and single-arm cable lat raises.

Jim that’s a scarey one I bet. Driving to vacation and all of a sudden hit like a brick.

I had a flu couple weeks back. Actually day before Trump inauguration on MLK day.

Had 100.7 and over fever. Thank God for Tylenol. It works. Broke the fever Monday nite.

Was bow hunting boar that Saturday and cut it short because of my coughing. Had a 3 hour drive home with no appetite. Knew I was in trouble when I don’t wanna eat the house down. I got a voracious appetite for a 66 year old.

I was left with a 2 week phlegm issue. Shut the gym down and all cardio. Just now clearing up the phlegm. Today is Feb 8th. 18 days. Nagging phlegm. Yes it’s Florida flu. I say released by viral labs.

But back in the gym just enough and got 225 x 6 reps on the bench no spotter last nite. For 66 and never a user of roids or T I felt ok about it. I had 2 more I’m sure.

I’m sore AF in the biceps from doing biceps Wednesday, chest now feeling sore now. No gym tonite maybe cardio only ? Because Saturday I am bow hunting boar and drawing 80 pounds sore AF is no joke.

    Maybe sauna will help ?

Btw guys and gals. Virals are lab tested to be impacted by Monolauren supplements. Doesn’t hurt to try. Made from coconut .
