Any day staring down at the grass is better than a day looking up at the roots.

Funny you should say that. I have something similar I say when people ask me how I'm doing today. I always say "Well I'm on the right side of the grass and that's always a positive!" Everyone always expects old men to use whimsical sayings!

Sometimes, when folks ask how I'm doing, I'll answer, "every day I'm above ground is a good day".

Fitness is finally coming back around. Ran and lifted a bit today. 1.5 miles in 13 min, rested, then ran a half mile in 3:37. Not bad for fat and 50.

    Good work!

I was able to get 3 trainer rides in last week. The last one on Saturday was 1:30. Starting to feel better on trainer. Those first few are horrible when you haven't been on a bike for 3 months. Also did my body weight circuit 3 times this week. Trying to do something every day. Plan to do a hike with the kids this afternoon, then ride trainer tonight.

Was going to hunt, but this 60 degree weather has me not so excited to hunt.

I got sick on Xmas Eve, and today was the first day I wasn't dying of a fever or hacking up a lung, so I did make it to the gym. I opted for the elliptical instead of the stairs to ease back into things. Got in 4.3 miles in 30 minutes and did some pull exercises after that. Machine reverse flies, machine rows, lat pulldowns, upright rows & dumbbell front raises.

I agree. I try to keep my glass half full. I'm a big believer that attitude is everything, and if it isn't, it certainly helps.

Was just thinking about another fitness goal in addition to my deadlift goal. I want to deadlift 20 x my bodyweight by next hunting season. This might not seem fast but what if I could actually run close to 60 seconds in the 400m. Man, I'd be in darn good extended anaerobic and muscular shape if I could do that at 50.....

5 hrs of pickleball the last 2 days (I’m about a 4-4.1 level player) pretty good for for agility, reaction speed, legs & arms.

I plan to pick back up the pack hikes later this week/next to help whittle some pounds, endurance and cardio.

The New Year, New Me crowd was in full force at the gym this morning. Good for them!

I stayed up too late last night and didn't get up when I should have, but I still managed to drag my butt to the gym. 30 min / 225 flights of stairs and a light leg day after. Weighted step-ups, leg curls, leg extensions, calf raises and single leg presses.

We leave for the ATA show tomorrow morning and I have three days of standing and walking around all day long so I didn't want to kill myself beforehand.

Saturday I coached a wrestling tournament in the morning and then took my older boys out for the youth rifle hunt in the afternoon. Walked a little over 11 miles, over 24,000 steps and 4500 calories. Sunday we went back out in the afternoon, almost 15,000 steps and 6 miles walking.

I had the same experience at the gym this morning. I was seeing all these new people and wondering where they came from. Then one of the guys with me said don't forget what time of year it is. I had totally forgotten about that. If it's anything like the past years they will be there a week and then never seen again. Not judging mind you, just going off past experience.

I did the gym rat thing for 2 years of my life. Definitely get a lot of people to show up during January. Usually, get 1 or 2 people, stick it out, and become a regular. I miss the gym life, but im too busy now a days and personally and just dont have the drive to go. I happy with the results of my home workout for now.

I felt like i lived there. Would chose to lift over hanging with friends. Made alot of friends in the gym. I injured myself in the gym, then never went back after that. Funny is none of the friends i made in the gym never extended into real life. Once i left, rarely ever heard from them. Definitely a good time though, young and having fun.

Donated double red today, feels like I drank a big cup of coffee and lost 20 pounds. Donated twice going to wait a week or two and get my ferritin levels checked. Medical field pisses me off, have to game the blood donation system to get relief from symptoms, at least some good comes of it. they really like my O- and because it can be used to save infants I am on board.
