Had to push myself to go today. Just one of those days and I felt better after I finished. Nothing sexy, just arms and shoulders, but I crushed it.

Local Sheriff's Dept. is hiring again and I'm debating applying. Turning 28 this year but it's something I've always wanted to do. I'm not in bad shape but my V02 max needs to be better. I've got 30 days to get that figured out. I can pass all the agility tests with ease now, I've done it before, but I want to CRUSH it.

Is VO2 max tested during the application process? I can't imagine that it is, considering most of the cops I see around here probably can't run 100 yards without doubling over.

I rucked 55 lbs - 3 miles @ 15:06 pace last night in the rain. I looked like a drowned rat when I was done, but I was glad that I did it. Tonight looks to be more of the same!

This morning was 30 decently hard minutes on the stairs followed by push day and more core work. Nothing too crazy - dips, overhead tricep extensions, incline bench and flies then leg lifts and cable crunches.

Not during the initial agility testing but it sure helps with the 300 meter sprints and 1.5 mile run timed run.

The standards honestly are pretty low, I think you have to complete the sprints in 71 seconds or less and 1.5mile run in less than 16:28min.

In Scottsdale AZ with the wife. We ran 5 miles this morning. Trying not to overdo things on the nutrition side… always the hardest part…

Took last week off from the weights, I was off on Monday, Thursday, and Friday with the kids on Spring Break. We went camping Thursday - Sunday. I averaged 21,000 steps per day with all the activity, mainly fishing and hiking.

Did a light workout today to get back into it, still a little tired from spending three nights on a thin air mattress in a tent. Hit the main power/strength exercises and cut back on the accessory work.

    Box Jumps 3 x 3 @BW, 1 min rest
    Power Cleans 5 x 5 @100 lbs, 120 lbs, 135lbs, 155lbs, 170lbs
    Push Press 5 x 5 @60lbs, 75lbs, 90lbs, 100lbs, 115lbs
    Pull Ups x 10 @BW
    Dips x 10 @BW

Another Tuesday night ride in the books. I was in bad shape from a 11 hour day of work on Monday, so wasn't expecting a good ride. But for some reason I was feeling really strong. Over it was a good ride. Just keep running out of daylight and feeling like I want more miles. Only way right now to get that is ride on weekends or leave work even earlier on Tuesday. Yesterday was a bit of an 'active recovery' day for me. I spent 1 hour/21 miles on the spin bike in the morning and rucked 3 miles @ 25 lbs/15:08 pace in the afternoon. I dropped the weight because my left knee and hips started to bark a little bit.

This morning was 20 minutes/150 flights of stairs followed by some leg work. Weighted step-ups, incline leg press, leg extensions, leg curls, and calf raises. I want to watch the Cubs season opener tonight so I'll probably do a couple mile walk during my lunch break to get that over with and let my hips have another day off, then get back to the heavy rucking tomorrow. My old man body doesn't like this many heavy rucks this many days in a row I guess.

I get those rouge pains all the time. Seems the only thing that fixes them is just time off, but who wants to do that! Don't know about you, but not looking forward to my 50's if this is how it feels sometimes in my 40's! Haha

Just wait until you're almost out of your 60s and staring into the wrinkled old face of the 70s!! Scary I'll tell you.

I will be grateful for a day off when I'm done with 75 Hard. Or at least not having to do two-a-days.

I'm working this hard in my 40's so hopefully my 50's and beyond don't hurt quite as bad as they would otherwise! Let's just hope it's worth it!

PS - although I'm solidly in my 40's, saying it (or typing it) is still very odd to me. I don't FEEL like I'm almost 44. In my head I'm still 25 dammit.

I know exactly what your saying. I'm the same age as you and think I'm younger than I am. Almost freaks me out to think I'm in my 40's. The thing that really freaks me out is my wife just turned 40 this year and I still see her as a 21 year old when I first meet her.

Age is all relative. I was at Skydive Arizona yesterday and Jumpers over Seventy (JOS) was attempting a world record. I had the pleasure of making a jump with a few old guys. The oldest was 80, I was by far the youngest at 53.
Wife and I were hiking up Camelback mountain this morning and there was some old timers just plowing up the trail. It has been an inspiring couple of days. The good news is everyone in the thread is getting after it and has a great chance of being fit and active for a few more decades.
I still feel like a kid and very blessed.

    Keep those legs moving!

I regularly ride mountain bikes with guys in there mid 70's. They have no problem keeping up with the group.

If y'all will indulge me I have a story that was really part of the reason I started getting fit 9yrs ago. My wife and I had went to Gatlinburg, TN. There's a place near there called clingmans dome. I think it's the highest point in Tennessee. I started walking up there and it didn't take long for me to get short of breath. There were benches about every 50yds and I was barely able to make it between them before having to stop to catch my breath. I was sitting at one and I saw this guy go by that looked to be in his 80s. I thought if this guy's going, I'm going, even if the paramedics have to come and get me and bring me down the mtn. Well I made it but I thought I was going to die. Well fast forward about three years, and 110lbs, and my wife and I go back. I'm not exaggerating at all when I say I could have RAN to the top. One of my proudest moments ever!
