As fate would have it, I started coming down with a cold while we were in PA last week. Friday was the first day I really felt it. Saturday was pure hell, and I survived the travel home yesterday. I'm back home now, but I still feel like a bag of poop and have something nasty in my chest with lots of coughing. I'm on prednisone and an anti-cough med, plus my normal inhalers that I usually don't ever need. I'm hoping it clears up in the next few days so I can get back to the gym and start on 75 Hard.

    Being sick is stupid.

Being I haven’t been to Asia since the late 70’s, things have changed. But the people cannot be any more pleasant. Everything is Sir I hear GI a bit and don’t correct them being they don’t understand. Lol

I’ve had a hard time getting USA news other than CNN hate and bias.

I did see a headline getting off the elevator in the lobby Iran denying charges of something ? I’m going to assume furnishing weapons to conduct terror.

For an old man I feel ok. The food is hit or miss and I’m focusing on American style food. Sans rice and noodles. Had mashed potatoes last nite and pizza at the Mall after I worked out. Haha

The water is not potable so every tooth brushing event is like out in the woods using a bottle of water. Haha. Hot water doesn’t exist in southern Philippines BTW.

So today I gotta do some legs because they need some loosening up and stretching. Leg extensions ? No squats. Leg curls and calf raises for those Achilles to stay somewhat loose. Leg presses if I recall they have it. Bali had it.

When I get back I’m ordering a new Hoyt Alpha X 80 pounds. Undecided on color, other than solid. Leaning on the grey

Not sure how you feel about homeopathy?

Whenever I feel something whack me including Covid I load up on the normal immunity boosters. One of them that I SWEAR by is Monolauren .

It’s said it aides in breaking down the shells of invading viruses and bacteria . I swear by it.

Granted you’re already deep inset with coughing etc. but your timeframe might be shortened a bit.

Monolauren is very inexpensive and a gold mine imho.

This is a long read so if that annoys you...... skip it.

Today marks 9yrs since I started my weight loss program. It was 9yrs ago and at age 60, I was 275lbs and losing energy and stamina very quickly. I had worked in healthcare for many years and had seen what happened to people as they age or became ill with different conditions. I knew if I didn't do something I would soon lose the ability to do the things I loved. I joined a local gym and placed myself on a 1500 cal/day program. My goal was to lose 75lbs and weigh 200lbs. By the first of December that same year, I had reached that goal. I decided it wouldn't hurt to lose an additional 15lbs and end up at 185. To make a long story short I ended up losing 35 more pounds and wound up at 165. As I've said here before, it was the most life changing thing I've ever done. Now at age 69 I have more energy and stamina than I did at age 50, and that's no exaggeration! Here are some the rules I used along the way.

    A. Rome wasn't built in a day. In other words, I didn't put the weight on overnight and it wouldn't come off overnight. It was going to take time.

    B. Working out was not an excuse to over eat. Alot of times you will spend alot of time exercising and then use that as an excuse to over eat. I determined I was not going to spend two hours in the gym and then undue all that work with an Oreo McFlurry, yes that's a weakness for me.

    C. It's not a goal, it's a journey. This is where alot of people mess up. They think once they reach their initial goal, they can stop whatever got them there. That is setting up for failure. Because if you have that mindset, you WILL go back to all the old habits and undo everything you accomplished, don't ask me how I know! Even after 9yrs of doing this I still workout 5 days a week and count my calories everyday, I now consume 2000 cal/day.

    D. You WIIL mess up along the way! The important thing is to not let a slip become a fall. If you mess up one meal, you go right back the next meal.

    E. Pick a program that is sustainable and something you can live with the rest of your life. I didn't want to do any program that would deny me any type of food. That's why I chose to go low calorie. I can eat anything as long as it fits my calorie count for the day.

    F. Planning is very important. If you know that on a certain day you're going to be attending an event or gathering where there are alot of things to eat, cut back earlier in the day. That way you don't blow up the entire day.

    G. Eating out is fine, and many times easier since most restaurants have the calorie counts on their menus or posted online.

I posted this to encourage anyone who is looking to make a change in your life. I'm older than most of you guys and I will tell you that losing weight is easier when you're younger. So if you want to accomplish this, don't put off getting started. It won't get any easier as you age. Good luck to all who want to do something like this. You CAN do it and I promise you, in the end, you won't be sorry!

Great job Jim! If everyone had your attitude, approach, and work ethic, I would be out of job. Fortunately, most people don't, which is good cause three growing boys eat... alot.

    Ahhhhh

I brought some Kong Flu back home with me. Actually it feels bacterial ? Head snobber, lungs. I think the A/C in the Hotel by Davao airport had a dirty filter ? We both woke up sniffling.

But ? The grind starts now ! I slept on the plane enough to not have jet lagg just yet. So I’m pushing some cardio for that lung congestion, some reps for 3 body parts not many sets. Then Monday back to 2 body part splits 12-18 sets depending on body part.

Lotsa healing going on from not lifting and shooting BTW.

    Oatmeal and Monolauren today

Pizza and birthday cake for my FIL’s 70th last night = a pump that Arnold would approve of.

Decent week running wise 4 runs. Knee is barking, hopefully that settles down before our ski trip.

Finally feeling well enough to get back to the gym tomorrow morning. I may have to take it easy on the cardio as my lungs still aren't quite there, but there's no time to waste!

Finally back on the bike. First ride of the season. Not a big fan of riding in the cold. Never got out of the 30's this morning. Got just under 12 mile and was definitely slow and out of bike shape. But it's a starting point. I will just keep trying to add speed and distance from here on out.
