Chest and triceps today. Shoulder been feeling much better. Been taking creatine and collagen protein in my morning coffee. Both about 2 weeks or so.

On creatine my body doesn’t like it an I bloat and get kidney pain or stones ? So I started with 2.5 grams and now close to 5 grains but a bit less, say 4 ?

Did 225 on the bench press for 5 reps. Picked up a rep. Last year I was good for 6 reps. Ofcourse 15+ years ago I’d rep it 18-20 times and get 315 x3.

So @ 65 years old there is a certain degradation of strength. To be honest ? I’m concerned if I should order 80 pounds on my new Hoyt or face the facts I’m losing strength monthly and order 70 ?

All I can say is I thank God I never took steroids in my life or TRT/HRT. I think you’re better off in the long run IMHO.

Be well all. I’m headed to Bali, Indonesia and Philippines on the 18th. Trying to find the archery ranges they use in Bali Tournaments.

You’re plenty strong for 65! At some point prioritizing joint health over repeated wear and tear is probably a reasonable approach. Recovering from a connective tissue injury is probably not worth the added draw poundage.

TRT is an interesting subject. I have an open mind about it. I think the jury is probably still out and this point regarding risk vs benefits. I’m always looking to learn more about it and hear about peoples experiences with it as well as good studies.

    Enjoy your trip!

Thanks brother. Joints are fine. Shoulder pain is the bicep tendon where it ties onto the shoulder. I think the long head but not 100% certain.

For 2024 I had set a goal to shoot a 300 score on a Vegas face using my 80 pound PSE hunting bow. That was until I realized I can’t see the X @ 20 yards. Lol . Might not be logical unless I use a clarifier.

So I was thinking ? If I can get the shoulder to stop barking, maybe 2024 I can get 8 reps with 225 ? That’s easier I think ? Lol

Sounds familiar. I shoot with a 2x lens and would definitely need a clarifier if I shot in a league.
Good luck with your lifting goals!

What a week…. Went to the gym at the resort on Sunday morning and ran 5 miles in the afternoon. Lifted and ran the first few days of the week since my wife was sick with C-19. She’s feeling better and we’re back home. I feel like I got hit by a truck so I have a good idea what the next few days are going to be like for me…

Man I can’t tell you how nice it feels to be very shoulder pain free. Now if I can get this kink out of my neck life will
    Be wonderful again .

Creatine for the assist on this one.

Start up taking Monolauren in prep of the China flu onslaught. I swear by it.

    Oh boy I’m in trouble.

2024 I set a goal to shoot a 300 with my hunting rig using a puncher not a thumb release 10 inch stab snd 80 pounds. You’d think everything of the bow is against me. But it ended up being I can’t really see a penny sized X anymore @ 20 yards. It might still be possible but a low X count without a clarifier.

After checking that out, I sorta shifted my 2024 goal to benching 225 pounds 8 reps.

Well appears that’s going to blow up in my face too. That’s a good thing however.

I did 7 reps yesterday and had the 8th with a head pounding push,,,, I think ? 7 was tough. 4 was ok. Lol it went downhill from 4. 8 reps will fall I’m pretty sure if I can stay healthy.

As I admitted I am injecting creatine in my Redcon1 Grunt mix. Started with 2.5 grams and now 5. Took a day off from it. It bloats me and the crystals I think my kidneys don’t like so much.

The end result was what and why I started this maybe 2-3 week run on creatine. My shoulder pain subsided 90%. That extra water absorbed into the shoulder I believe brings “lubricating blood” which heals tendon inflammation? I don’t know. I only know I feel way better. And am loosening up far easier. I did made small modifications to my warm up, but I think it’s the creatine.

In any event either the no longer sore shoulder or the creatine strength or possibly the combo ? Gave me 2 more reps on the bench with 225 to 7 reps. I just set 8 reps as a 2024 goal thinking my 4 reps and declining strength would be impossible to hit.

    Haha

Now I’m thinking ? If this continues ? Can I get 300 for 1 rep ? Lmfao I won’t be willing to try but I might sneak in 275.

Haven't posted here a lot, but I've hit it hard lately, since joining a gym. I can't ever remember being this thoroughly sore all over. Of course, I'm not young anymore either, but feeling good.

You can prevent a ton of that lactic acid build up soreness. You have to start before you lift but after the fact, you still can beat a ton of that soreness thru great hydrayation protein and nitic oxide. Don't get yourself so sore you burn out.

Here's Athlean an ex Mets baseball team strength coach. Explaining soreness build up and how to prevent and disperse it.

Could be the creatine if that’s new for you. Just roll with it, not a bad problem to have.
    Good luck!

Feeling reasonably normal after my last go around with covid. Haven’t trained since last Tuesday. Of course I have training in NC for a few days starting tomorrow so It looks like it will be a few more days before I get after it. Longest break I’ve had off of training in a few years. Hopefully the extra recovery time helps.

    178 lbs this morning.

Appreciate it. He's pretty solid and was one of those trainers I listened to some time back. I changed how I train my shoulders based on his method and saw real results. As far as recovery and dealing with lactic acid goes, I already do all I can for it, save the N.O. That stuff bothers me. Hydration, rest, protein and alternating muscle groups (bigger the better) to distribute lactic acid are built into my routine. I'm just pushing myself to grow and the soreness is just part of it all.

178 now. How much Covid weight you lose ? I drop 18-25 everytime. It’s so hard at my age to put it back on.

I’m still 8 pounds lite from last bonafide Covid November 2022. I cannot for the life of me put mass on a pound more.

Maybe if I really load creatine water ? Or really push more protein? Not worth it at my age.

I didn’t lose any weight really if I did it was water. I would like to be a few pounds leaner. I’ve been this weight for years but my body composition has been changing and not for the better over the last two years.

With the Tornado-Snowpocalypse we have had the last few days, my workout schedule has been totally screwed up this week. I decided to dedicate the remainder of the week to 1 rep max testing. Hit 215 on power cleans this morning and 165 on split-jerks. Goal is to hit 245 on power cleans and 195 on split jerks. That would be 1.5x and 1.0x bodyweight on those exercises. Will test Sumo-deadlifts on Friday.

While we were at the ATA show I walked on average 3-4 miles/day around the show floor and did 50 body weight squats and 50 push ups each morning just to keep the blood flowing a bit.

We got home Sunday morning and I've hit the gym both Monday and this morning. Fortunately I appear to have avoided the sickness that hit a few of the folks I was with, so I'm thankful for that! We head to Lancaster next week Weds and I get home late Sat night. The week after that I plan on starting 75 Hard. Can't wait!!
