I'll be 43 soon, so I understand your denial! If you're into reading at all, I would highly recommend Peter Attia's book "Outlive". It's an eye-opener for us middle-aged dudes trying to hang on to whatever youth we have left.

I allowed myself a bit of a reprieve this weekend and put on a few lbs in the process, but I've since dropped back to my before-the-weekend weight. I ate clean for the most part but allowed myself a couple of late-night tacos on Friday (hey, it was Cinco de Mayo!) and a burger on Saturday night. Outside of those two things, I ate my standard diet of eggs, meat, water, and overnight oats. But I did consume massive quantities of sunflower seeds at my son's baseball tournament this weekend, and I think the excess salt had me retaining some water. I was 189 on Friday morning, then ballooned up to 192 over the weekend, and back to 189 today.

I've also had a minor cold, but I managed to work through it. I went to sleep earlier than usual last night and woke up feeling pretty good today. I did 30 minutes on the stairs at an average pace of 100 steps/minute, followed by a decent pull day. I did single-arm bent-over dumbbell rows, barbell curls, dumbbell shoulder shrugs, rear cable crossovers, single-arm cable lateral raises, and finished with some lat pulldowns.

Tomorrow is a spin class morning. I've been doing 30-minute classes and holding my own, so I may push up to a 45-minute class and see how it goes. My goal is always to finish in the top 50%, and I've been hitting that pretty easily. Time to up the ante a bit.

Keep up the good work, everyone!!

Justin. Have you done any stress tests for your heart? Like an ekg while on a treadmill workout?

I don't ever need one as long as I go thru the airport on a regular basis and not have a heart attack, I know I am good.

Negative - but I have a full physical soon and plan on asking the doc about it. I do wear a heart rate monitor daily during my workouts so I am intimately familiar with my resting heart rate and my max heart rate based on exertion. But I've never done an actual stress test.

Do it if you get a chance. I did it once in my mid 30s. Some great data comes out of it. In fact I need to get a full physical soon myself. Been since Dec 2021.

I can’t help but wonder if a coronary calcium would have greater value in an asymptomatic healthy person. I’ve had both. I guess it depends on what you are wanting to know and what you plan on doing with the information.

Got back on bike again after 2 weeks off. This darn cold won't leave me. My lungs are still not 100 percent.

    Ride # 8
    18.55 miles
    2 hours
    9.2 mph average.

Felt good to get a good 2 hours on the bike, but it was much slower. Was feeling strong tonight for the most part. My nose is still clogged, so I'm doing alot of mouth breathing and got a bad side cramp early in the ride. That was a first.

I did a 45-minute Endurance live class this morning and finished 18th out of 72 people, so I'm happy with that! I looked at the top finishers and have no idea how these people put out that much power while doing the same workout I was doing. I was WORKING this morning. Literally dripping sweat and heart rate touching 170, and these top finishers smoked me.

Good work! I did a 2.1 mile run then shoulders/arms before work. I like pre work workouts. Good energy all day.

I got in a solid HIIT workout with the kettlebells this morning. I may have gone a bit too hard on the squats and lunges - we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Today marks 100 days since I started my health "journey". I haven't missed a day of working out since February 1st, and am currently down 33 lbs. I feel great and am probably the lightest weight I've been in 20 years. But I still have a long way to go, and there's no time to waste.

Long last 2 weeks of work plus hard workouts. Been crushed the past 2 days without much energy at all...after work I'm hitting a run and lift hard.

Long long week. I knew if I didn't get home from work and workout immediately I wouldn't make it. Warmed up over 1.5 miles. Legs didn't feel great. Rest 1 min then ran a mile for time. Heck yeah. First time my lungs were the limiting factor. Legs were strong.

Well, boys and girls, I broke my streak this weekend. And to be honest, I don't feel too bad about it. 100 days straight of working out, 75 of those being two-a-days, was a lot for anyone who isn't a professional athlete. It was time for a rest.

Last week I was battling some sort of cold that just had me feeling run down all week long, so I opted to take the weekend off from training and try to get recovered. I think I slept for 10 hours on Saturday night, which never happens for me. But it helped a TON. I also took my two youngest out for ice cream on Saturday night and got a small one for myself. It was time for a treat! Yesterday we did Mother's Day brunch, and I managed to eat clean and not be tempted by the variety of bad foods that were available en masse.

Today I got back after it in the gym - 35 minutes on the elliptical followed by push day and I'm feeling good. Let's have a great week!
