Been steady on workouts. Waist size has probably dropped 2 inches in last few months. But my weight is barely down a couple pounds. Ughhh. So yesterday I started a commitment to less calories consumed.

Just got done with an 8 mile walk/run...laying the foundation.

First time doing any real cardio in about 7-8 months. Only made it 1/2 mile jogging into a 20mph wind. Walked for 1/4 and then ran the final 1/4.

Sure worked my lungs good. Now to try and get under a 7-minute mile over the next few months like I did last spring/summer.

Portion control is working. Also withstood a box of crispy cream donuts all afternoon at work.

This has been an "okay" week for me, but not great. I'm still working out daily and eating clean, but I really haven't made any progress in weight loss in about a week now. I still feel great and can feel my cardio is breaking into a new level that I haven't seen in several years, so I'm happy with that. For comparison, I used to average 80-85 steps per minute on the stair bastard over a 30-minute climb, which was 150-ish flights. I'm now averaging 98-100 steps/min and 185 flights in 30 minutes. And I feel like I have some headroom if I really want to push it.

I got myself a fancy new scale that tracks all sorts of stuff - muscle mass, fat mass, bone mass, heart rate, hydration level, and some other junk. It seems significantly more accurate than my old scale and syncs directly to my phone. I have no idea what I'm doing with any of this info, but it seemed like a good purchase at the time. I'm also monitoring my blood pressure weekly. The last four generations of men on the Zarr side of my family have all died of heart attacks, including my dad at 53. I'm trying to break that cycle and live long enough to die of cancer or dementia.

Current BP is right around 120/80 which is at the top end of what I'd like to see. I'm hoping as I continue to eat clean and drop 10-15 more pounds it will come down a bit more.

In other news, I got a Staph infection on my leg this week (cellulitis) that required a trip to the immediate care on Weds night. It started on Tues morning as what looked like a pimple or ingrown hair on my right thigh, but it was slightly swollen and painful. By Weds morning, it was roughly the diameter of a baseball, super red, and seemed to have a tiny fire burning inside of my leg that I could feel through my jeans. Doc put me on some antibiotics, and I believe I'm on the mend now. The swelling and pain have gone down a lot in a day and a half.

That's all for today. Keep up the great work, fellas! It's awesome to see so many people out there crushing it.

Those infections are no joke, Justin. Definitely keep a eye on that.

For me this week is a complete bust. Came down with a nasty cold, flu, covid? Not sure what it is exactly, didn't want to go get tested. Knocked me out for a couple days. Just treating with over the counter medicine. I'm over the hump and feeling a little better each day now. Only stayed home one day of work, but so run down that there is zero effort from to work out. Plan to jump back into my biking next week and start preparing for another race. Really frustrated with that first one and want to redeem myself.

    Keep kicking butt guys!

    Solid work guys!

My back is finally feeling better. I was starting to worry something was really wrong.

30 minutes on the spin bike. Inc DB press, OHP, rear fly, hypers, cable curls, push downs, push ups, knee raise, banded clamshell. Quick and dirty call day work out.

Had a good week with both my diet and workouts. Portion control, probably 75% less sweets, and estimated 30 miles of walking/running.

Did you get your new shoes? If so, do you see any improvement?

Weighed myself the last 2 days. Biggest single weight loss week in years. Several lbs. Actually shocked.

Kinda funny neighbors grandson was over and he is a 15 year old know it all and he was talking about how he lifts weights. I was back at the house and he was in the back yard and I said hey come over and look at my weight set. The kid laughed at my single straight bar with old cast weights. So I said well lets see what you got. He is only 15 so I was not going to break his balls, talked about posture when lifting and form is better than reps. I did show him old man strength.

Wait till you are in your 50's and pay for the sins of your youth. But if you stay fit, and you are mindful the wear and tear is manageable. I regret all the times I jumped off the tail gate instead of stepping down.
