    Kicking butt! Great job Jim.

I got a couple friends that are in there 70's and still mountain biking with them. They keep up with the group and regularly beat up guys half there age. Just keep moving and having fun.

This is one of the best posts I've read in a long time. CONGRATS to you, and AMEN to what you said! Too many people spend their time worrying about what they don't think they can accomplish rather than going out and doing it.

Last weekend I helped my brother-in-law carry a heavy ass elliptical machine into his basement at his new house. He hasn't used it in months, maybe years. I told him if I'm going to break my back carrying this bastard thing down the stairs, he better start using it. He said, "I'm going to start next week".

DO NOT WAIT. DO NOT be the person who always says, "I'll start tomorrow." START NOW.

Nobody ever looks back on their life and says "I wish I had waited longer to start being healthy."

Well guys I pulled the trigger and signed up for the race this weekend. When I signed up, there were over 500 people registered already for the day. Gonna be a big race! Nerves are already setting in! Haha

Just did a pre work run. 3 miles in 31mins. From where I was 3 months ago, that is a good improvement. I'd love to be able to do that in sub 28 or so in next few months.

You ever do a 1 mile sprit? I use to do that and felt it really helped me judge my threshold. I would run a mile as fast as I could before my jog. Over a couple months I got over a minute off my one mile time and made 3 miles feel easy. I just never pushed my self to see how long I could run. 30 minutes of running and I was over it. Ha

I haven't yet. I've purposefully not pushed myself real hard on the running. I need to keep building and stay injury free. I have a tendency to really push hard and at 48 that may get me into some trouble. Haha.

15 years ago I got into distance running bc of work. I was always a sprinter and thought I wouldn't like distance running. Kind of grew on me bc it was painful. Haha.

I tried running the other night, and my knees hurt so bad from the impacts I couldn't make it more than a couple hundred yards. It's just not in the cards for me. I'll stick with my spin bike, elliptical and stair machine. Oddly enough, weighted rucking at a solid 3.5-4 mph pace doesn't hurt my knees at all. But as soon as I start running, it feels like someone is slamming my knees with a hammer. No thanks. You guys can keep your running.

I got in 45 minutes and 287 flights of stairs yesterday morning, which I believe is my new PB. Today I did 35 min on the elliptical for my warm-up followed by a decent "pull" day. Bent-over dumbbell rows, dumbbell shoulder shrugs, barbell curls, dumbbell front raise, cable side raise, and a couple more seated rows for good measure.

My oldest son has a baseball tournament tomorrow, and we have to be at the field by 7 am. So I may have to skip tomorrow morning's workout and hit the gym in the afternoon with all of the high-school dudes in their short shorts.

For guys with bad knees and running, you should try mountain biking. My dad was a competitive runner, then his knees went out. Started biking and saved his knees. Get the same endurance exercise but no knee impacts. The problem it's just as bad as hunting, with all the types of bikes and gadgets. It is very addictive once you get in bike shape. I've made some great friendships from biking and got alot business/work from it also.

I'm the same way. Hence the reason I'm racing this weekend. Just like the feel of always pushing myself past my comfort zone.

Life is way more interesting outside your comfort zone. It doesn’t have to be extreme.

I'm actually surprised how long I've been able to keep my knees from falling apart. 1993 and 1994...both knees got new acls. Then torn mcls and some cartilage in subsequent years. Football. Thanks for nothing! Haha. But seriously I believe you should really look into split squats. No weights. They will strengthen and loosen up your knee joint....did for me a few years ago.

And yes I've been noticing the booty shorts worn by today's hs males...I point them out nearly morning when driving my 14 y/o to hs...she can't take it when I say "booty shorts" or "package pants"

Was a long week and I woke up on my day off with little energy. 2 hours later I started to think of a training goal.

I set a 1 hr goal to do a 3mile run/1 mile walk plus 160 pushups along the way. Did it in 46:46. Crushed it.

Saturday I did my first online spin class in probably 2 years, and realized how much I missed having someone else leading the charge. Sometimes it's nice to follow a routine that someone else put together. It holds you more accountable for doing the parts that you don't like doing and maybe skip on your own.

Yesterday I did a 3 mile ruck with the weighted pack and averaged just a tick under 15 minutes per mile, which has to be close to my personal best. Felt great to be out in the nasty, cold, windy weather again.

This morning I hit the elliptical for a good 35 minute warm-up, then I did some chest exercises. I'm trying to build some strength so I've been doing variations of the 3x5 workout for my bench press. Higher weight, lower reps, long rest between sets. Today was 5 sets of 3 reps with 3 minutes in between. It takes longer, but the added recovery between sets allows you to not fatigue quite as quickly. As they say - the only way to lift more weight is to lift more weight.

Current plan is to hit the gym Mon/Weds/Fri and do spin classes Tues/Thurs. Weekends are a crap shoot depending on what I've got going on with kids activities and other stuff.

Current weight: 191 lbs. I'm down 29 pounds since Feb 1.
