I never actually weighed this bass, never even put a tape measure on it, just took a few photos and put it back in the pond. I am 6'1" tall and around 160# in the photo, no "Bill Dance" extended arm photo. So what do you guys think?
Here is another photo of the same fish, my buddy had actually caught it about an hour before I did. We were fishing off the dock at the pond and didn't realize that there was a spawning bed under the dock, this bass would nail anything that was dropped off the end of the dock! On a side note, this was around the first couple days of June so the bass had already spawned and it was more than likely a female, I would have loved to saw what she looked like before she spawned out!
I'm still sticking to my original guess of 3.5-4, Jason I know you've caught a lot of fish... it still amazes me how so many people over estimate the weight of a fish. I did it too until I started carrying a scale with me. Either way, it's a good one!
I hear ya Dustin, I am not too good at guessing weight for largemouth, really any bass, give me some trout and its a different story. I fish a local C&R lake that has several bass tourny's a week throughout the summer and it is amazing to hear the numbers throw out before the fish are actually weighed. I watched a nice mid 4 lb bass get weighed and heard probablly a dozen people throw out weights from 6 lbs all the way up to 10 lbs! I have a digital scale, just never really packed it along with me, I am gonna have to take it and the tape measure next time I hit up some of the local areas where I figure I can get some bigger fish!
I have seen this a lot. My house has a local pond in the back yard and I watch people pull some out. They are like, this is a 4 pound bass. I say you better weigh him...it don't look but maybe 1.5 to 2. So they do and I devestate their poor little hearts. I often wonder how many fish stories are really out there after watching some of these guys.
Whats even worse is watching some of the bass fishing shows on t.v. These guys are pulling out 2-3 lb bass and claiming more than double the weight! I personally don't care how much any of my fish weigh, I just love catching them. I have saw a bunch of guys get pissy because their fish isn't as long or heavy as they thought.... who cares? It was probablly still a blast to catch!
The last tournament I fished was at the end of May and big bass was 4lbs 14ounces and that fish looks way bigger. I know most people over estimate weight, but I think 3.5 is way too low. Could just be the pics tho. the left bass(in left hand) weighed in a 4.14lbs
