So had some time to blow today so decided to go do a bit of sheddin where i shot my buck in november (unrecovered). Jumped several deer as soon as i got out of my truck which is weird cause i was still on the road ?

The buck i shot in november was in the pouring down rain and , basically i learned if you dont think you have an absolute perfect shot anything less is a bad idea when its raining that hard ! So i lost blood , searched several times in a three day span and nothing ! So thats where i started today , and it wasnt long before i found most of my arrow (broke off) about 100 yards from where i shot him. And then everything changed , with one sighting.

Its the skull of a pretty young deer , which i didnt think much of but after realizing the entire skeleton was there i came to this ----

It was on the main deer trail on this particular ridge. My first thoughts were damn im glad that wasnt my foot, cause i was all over this area when i was searching for my deer in Nov ! After raking some leaves away i realized this small deer was actually TRAPPED by this thing. There was 2 small pieces of bone inside it ! I figure it was too small and weak to break loose. It was everything i had to get it out of the ground ! I dont even think these are legal anymore in ohio ? Besides that who the hell set it and left it for good ? I'll be walkin on air in this place from now on !:bash:

    A closer look

Found an area today i was unaware of this year also full of these

I know ive read it several times on here before from different fellas but , shed huntins a pretty damn good opprtunity to stomp through the woods like you'd otherewise not. And that allows you lots of new areas that were off limits all year bedding/etc. All in all a damn good day in the woods !

Good pics. I love walking the woods in the winter. It's a great way to break cabin fever. Too bad about the trap. If people are going to choose to trap, they need to make sure they're responsible enough to check once or TWICE daily IMHO.

Neat pics,,,,but comming from an ole trapper of many years, you can step on a trap like that all day long with boots, and it will never get ya!! :sheep: hate hearing of the deer's misfortune, thats a first i have ever seen of that!! great getting out there though!!

Maybe true, but I wouldn't want to take your word for it until I see you stick your leg in one. Then I'd still be skeptical. I say be damn careful when you're out there. Who knows if there might be a bigger trap! Cool pics otherwise.!

Dave, Crick is right about stepping on a trap that size ... won't hurt you. Deer trails are actually game trails, good travel routes to catch coon, fox, coyote ect. It's very hard to imagine a deer being caught and held in that trap, could've been bones from another animal? The trapper should have followed up and checked his traps.

Nice pics! too bad for that deer, damn that must've hurt. Kinda strange that deer being trapped in it, but if it breaks the leg bone, I can see why it couldn't get out. What a bad way to go out.

Oh yeah - i assure you that little deer was trapped by that little trap the skeleton went right back to it and a leg was right to the trap ! i think as hard as it came out it would have held. not sure how much tension that trap has ,maybe tomorow ill check that out. if my typings terrible youll know why !

    Dave,
If I'd known when in November, I was probably on the other side of the river from you hunting my in-laws farm if it was a weekend. I was up there 3 weekends in November. And is that AVATAR pic from this year??? If so, I know that deer!!!

    Dave,
I thought maybe another possibility could have been that a trapper found the dead deer and set a trap close by to catch furbearers scavenging the carcass, but I'm a firm beleiver that sign doesn't lie, so if the deer was in the trap, it was in the trap.
The trapper never should've left the trap go unatended, that's very unethical, and illegal. LOL. watch your fingers!

absolutly the trapper should have checked his trap. Under law they have a set grace perion that they have to make there rounds by. very unethical,,,the guy that set that one. still good pics!!Looks like a victor 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 coil spring.
