Who in their right mind agrees to let a guy out on parol to live in a tent and be homeless? Isn't that the premise behind the halfway house program?

How would letting a guy live in a tent look good on paper or in anyones head, especially when it is your job to deal with released prisoners. Back in the day we had an inmate crew that helped out on fires we had in the local area, they were a mop up crew that worked hard. I used to get into arguments with clean shirts about my preference for ordering the inmate crew over regulars called in to mop up. I used them because I only had to supervise the crew leader (not an inmate). I also made sure I kept them on the fire ground till after 6 so they would be provided a meal, it was a reward for the hard work they did so they didn't have to eat prison food. I got to somewhat know a few of the guys and I was and still am friends with the crew leader. I would talk to the crew leader and ask him questions about some of the guys and he explained to me something to keep in mind. When you talk to the inmates keep in mind that they are felons they can seem like nice hard working guys but they still made decisions that lead to them getting in trouble more than once that put them into that position. Trust but verify and chances are more likely than not they will reoffend, don't get sucked in and you won't get burned.
