Aging deer by going strictly off of the body this time of year doesn't always work either. This buck more then likely has lost allot of weight from the rut.

    Hell of a buck!!

We had pics of this buck just before dark two nights ago. I have a 23 year old nephew in a wheelchair that we are trying to get on this buck. He'll be hunting this weekend all day Saturday and Sunday with his crossbow. Would be killer if he gets a crack at him.

Just a hair older than fawn. I have video of 2 does( I assume does) that look like that and in one of the videos you can watch it try to nurse on an old doe.

Good luck to your nephew. That is a heck of a deer. I've never seen a fawn with antlers that big before.

Looking at the Coloration of the deer's forehead ( Awefully dark to be a fawn or 1.5 )
Looking at the Ear's ( seem small in relation to the size of the head to be a fawn - fawns ear's look big in relation to the size of their head to me)
Looking at the Forlegs ( those are some awefully big muscular forelegs for a fawn or 1.5)
Looking at the knees ( fawns have big knobby knees this deer dosent )
Looking at the rear right hoof dew claws ( look pretty big for a fawn )
As for age I was at a loss but I was sure it wasnt a fawn ... I finally got something right :) YAHHHHHHH
Thats a heck of a nice looking buck ya got there Dan

Well after that last post i went back and looked and saw the pick of the antlers! With out the antlers I stick to my answer, but with them WOW. I have never seen a deer that old with that odd shaped head like that. That is one heck of a deer. If you do kill it be sure to get it aged and post it on here. I would love to have an accurate age of that deer.

Thanks guys. He has killed a lot of deer, bears and elk and a bunch of other game.....and even a few bucks he has hanging on his wall.

I really think he has a good shot at killing this buck or another big 8 before the season ends Jan 9. Here's a pic of the big 8 and the 12 is in the background.

Look at the frame on that big 8! Sounds like your nephew has accomplished a lot in his hunting career.

Also, I just finished watching the bowhunt or die, when you were hunting Ontario, there was a small 10 pt that looked like his feet were white. Or was I just seeing things? Cool buck to watch for that for sure.

Yep, he does have some pretty white feet. We had pics of a doe closer to camp that had white feet and it ran up the legs a little bit.

When I saw it I thought 2.5-3.5... saw the rack and was like.. damn that's big.. Maybe he's even a bit older... But what do I know... I'm no deer-geneology-genie! But as others have noted before, that'd be one big damn fawn....

I think is you can get an idea about the age but its not that on by looking at the body. Just like people there are some really big and really small people and everything in between. I mean look at all the different shapes of people there are out there. That is my idea on aging deer on the hoof

I caped this buck out the other night and looked at his teeth. He was a minimum of 5.5 years old. So much for going by body size.

I wouldn't call that a quality picture to be aging him by. You can hardly see his body.

Here's probably the best pics I have of him.
