So, how old do you think this buck is?

I thought the same thing, Vito. ONLY reason I didn't go there is.....fawns, here, have a more reddish colored coat than yearlings. That deer looks like it has the same winter coat I see here on yearlings+.

    Dan....you gonna "get" us?....lol

I could be way off. Got another photo?

The head and body shape are what I see on buck fawns this time of year. No difference in coat color here. I was just going with my first thought when I saw the pic. I could be way off. It would be easier if there was another deer to compare it to.

Dan'o, Ill go with 1.5, he does have a very blocky head but seems to have a little weight to him. looks young, but im guessing since you cut his rack off in the pic that its something more than a Fawn :busted:

From the other pics I have of him, he doesn't have an overbite. I thought that when I saw it too.

Sorry Jeff, I went hunting yesterday and didn't update this. I'll upload the other picture in a bit and post it.

Pretty incredible genetics for a yearling. Can't wait to see what he's going to be in 3 or 4 years.

Thats some funny stuff! I have to admit I was leaning towards yearling too but I have pictures from last year of a good buck that looks very similar. We've had countless discussions with buddies about the age of my buck too. The range is anywhere from 2.5-6.5 depending on the angle of shot. Just a good healthy deer with a heavy winter coat. WHAT A SLAMMER!

I'm glad to see this thread/pic reinforcing the "don't look at the rack, look at the body" guide when aging bucks.

I knew you had something up your sleeve Dan, I was kinda bummed when I saw that you had already posted the full pic :tu:

It's hard this time of year to go off of the shape of their face, since they're poofed-out like like blowfish!

Here's a 2.5 yr old (at least) doe that was in with her two fawns this am feeding off the birdfeeder on our deck.

Sorry buddy! I posted the original thread 2 days ago and didn't get much response and I knew Jeff wanted to see the full pic.

Wow, how deceiving. I was going to guess 1 1/2 yr. old and feel like I am usually a fair judge of a bucks age. Do you have history with this deer and know the actual age? His rack looks to make him at least a 3 1/2 yr. old and likely older. It is a little tougher to judge when their head is down and the back is hunched up. Do you have any pics of this buck standing at ease? Regardless, great buck and thanks for the humble pie. lol

I do have more pics of him, that are from IR cams and he looks bigger in them. My brother has more of him in front of flash cams. I'll get some from him and post them up too.

No history with him. He may be a 10 we had pics of last year, but my brother can't find them, so no way to really look.

If you didn't guess on the pic......well......lol.

Good googly-moogly, Dan. Even though you PM'd me he was a stomper, I didn't expect all that!
