I agree with Gary that they want to be noticed. This is also why they rarely attack places where they know there are guns. It would be over too soon and there would be little to no shock value.

However,if the principle and vice principle had been carrying, this would have been a situation that a couple people died and it would have been over.

Most of us HERE agree gun control is not the answer and does not work.(look at chicago) However,it is a proven fact that the only deterent and the only way to stop this kind of horrendous crime is with guns in the PROPER hands.

I personally am not opposed to properly trained teachers carrying.

A gun is as gun, anyone who has barely handled any type of gun can easily learn to reload it with nobody stopping them or shooting back rapidly. If u let them start to take one type of firearm then where does it stop. Not to get off topic and take away from the horrible things that took place today.

I'm not even religious, but X2 to everything PT just said! People like that need to end up in my butchering shed, preferably alive, that way they can feel the pain of the families who lost their loves ones. Skinning them ****ers alive wouldn't even do them justice IMO.

Evil walked among us today. I just pray for peace for the families affected, and hope they find healing and solace in the days ahead. I simply cannot fathom the rage someone must feel to commit such a horrific act, especially against beautiful, innocent children. I don't understand how anyone can reach this level of rage to take the lives of so many children. Yes, evil walked among us today.........give us the strength to heal and try to understand. This is indeed a very sad day for all of America.

As for the evil animal that carried out this act..........I hope you suffer beyond words for all of eternity. :-(

Sickening on so many levels. A cowardly act. I cannot imagine what the parents and loved ones are going through. A very sad day for many.

I'm also sick of the media, jumping on the gun control propaganda was a no brainer and literally shows they have no brains. But, my biggest issue with them was trying to get first hand accounts from 5-10 year olds nearly interrogating them for what they witnessed. Have they no compassion for anything but a news story and you heard it here first mentality? Why the parents let them be interviewed is beyond me as well.

Just one time I would love to see one of these mentally disturbed whackjobs miscalculate and run out of ammo. They shouldn't be allowed the easy way out.

That gets me too, seriously don't know why they feel the need to stick a camera in people's face jus to have something to report on. And it's even more disheartening when it's an elementary student that may not even really understand the situation. Personally I would love to slap the parents around for letting it happen, it'd be one thing for them to comment but to subject your 8 year old is pretty shameful I think.

I am at a total loss here. I am a father of two little kids, not yet school aged, and the thoughts of sending them off to school scared the life out of me. The low life piece of **** who did this is the lowest form of life on this earth. I can't even think straight thinking about those little kids, the other victims and the families.

We need security in our schools. Whether that means putting guns in the hands of teachers, armed guards around the school, one way in and out of the school, being checked in and out, whatever, we need to do something. Its the reality of life in this country anymore. No one, NO ONE, can be trusted any longer and we need to start treating our schools like gold mines.

The violence we're subjected to on a daily basis in this country is baffling. Video games, TV, the internet, etc., are littered with gun violence. Its pretty sad that we look at nudity on television as taboo, but we can watch channel after channel of people getting shot and killed, blown up, raped, stabbed, heads chopped off, etc.

As for the guns, I think any decent, rational, gun owning citizen of this country can or at least should agree that some reform on gun laws needs to happen. I have no idea what that means however. Banning certain weapons may help slightly, but in the end, a criminal or lunatic who wants such weapons will get them by other means because they never follow laws to begin with.

However, I will say this. Some weapons have zero place in society and should be banned. Not many sportsmen that I know of need a semi automatic assault weapon for hunting. Not many need high capacity magazines for hunting purposes.

I will happily give up my right to own a semi automatic weapon in exchange for helping keep our kids and myself safer. This is ridiculous and needs to stop now.

We have to remeber that even a lone gunman with a 6 shot revoler will just keep reloading and shooting if no one is willing to stop them.
if we start to ban everything that nut jobs use to kill people we will not have anything left.
lets just remember how this one person was able to ruin so many lives. if they really want to start a change in kids today ban these dam video games that glorify killing, get parents to stop using TV, video games, computers etc as baby sitters so they can live on their own social media platforms.
I am really ready to move to a more isolated area and start home schooling my kids and get them away from all of this crap.

I am as pro-2nd Amendment as they come. But why on earth does the mother, knowing she has a child that has a mental disorder, have unsecured guns in her home? Unfortunately she paid the ultimate price for her carelessness but so did a lot of other people. Guns ownership is a right but it also comes with great responsibility. If you have unstable people living in your home, or heck even moody teenagers, secure your damn guns people.

From an article in the Houston chronicle on the CT tragedy, the author points something out:

China has seen several rampage attacks at schools in recent years, though the attackers there usually use knives and not guns. The most recent attack happened Friday, when a knife-wielding man injured 22 children and one adult outside a primary school in central China.
It doesn't take a gun to take several lives, stop blaming the weapons. The law did it's job, the kid couldn't buy in CT because he wasn't 21, but I agree with several as to why did the mother keep weapons around a mentally disabled person.

PT, you of all people, I figured would get what I am saying. Oh well....

Let me try this again. IF banning certain weapons would eliminate or significantly reduce the gun violence in this country, and we all know what guns are in question, then I am all for it. If it means the difference between my kid coming home from school safe everyday, or all of us feeling safe in public, I am for it. I never said it was THE solution, but if its a step in that direction, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I only speak in terms of hunters as I am one and do not partake in recreational shooting. If I were not permitted to own a semi automatic gun, for example, it would have zero effect on me as a hunter as I do not need that type of weapon to hunt with.

IMHO, the days of this country clutching this 2nd amendment and treating it as if it was still the 1700s are over. This country has changed radically and our way of thinking must as well. Some of the problem is the NRA nuts who have everyone in this country scared to death that the government wants to take ALL guns away from the citizens. There is simply no truth or substance to support that. This isn't the 1700's anymore, our society has changed in a lot of bad ways. Our constitution was written in a way that it can adapt to the changing times. No amendment should be "off limits" to some change.

I have no idea what the answers or solutions are. I know I am typing this with a lot of emotion because, well, it really hits home for me. I do feel that this country, as a society, is really screwed up. Its really odd that we are not allowed to show nudity of any kind on TV, but we have our pick of murders, rapes, stabbing and criminal based shows on every other channel. Not saying every channel should be the playboy channel, but I hope you see what I'm getting at. I believe that everything starts with the person, but I also believe a component of this, the guns themselves, need to be looked at as well.

It's a little too soon to discuss this. Lots of emotion and knee jerk reactions. I will only say your proposed solution can set a dangerous precedent, that's all.

I still can't believe this happened.

Yea, banning assault weapons will help. We know they would all be turned in, just because its the law.

Come on, the guns are out there and banning them will not change that.

And i know people that hunt with them. After all, they are a rifle. Also, semi auto includes most guns.

Im for some reform. The biggest would be a safety and education system for gun owners. Kinda like our hunter safety course. But that would do very little to change what happened. This kid/man was mentally disturbed and needed help. Don't ignore the signs. Maybe even take a kid to church.

Imo, these gun free zones need to be heavily guarded. That or allow properly trained individuals to carry.

    Very, very sad..

My heart goes out to the all who have been affected by this horrific deed.

From what I have read an "assualt weapon" wasn`t used, two hand guns were.
