This sad tragedy (our english language has no word to capture just how tragic it is) shows us all just how twisted mankind is these days. If these things teach me nothing else it is that the world is more in need of God now than ever before.

Believe it or not I know there was a teacher's organization in Texas that put together a very legit proposal where teachers who were trained on properly carrying, handling and using a handgun and kept training up to date would be allowed by the state to carry a firearm for school safety reasons. I think the catch was how to keep gun safely out of reach of students (in desk drawer? on the person?).

Having teachers packing heat would not be wise, but I am all for arm guard at a school, even a police officer.

I have a lot of good friends who are teachers (some of you on this very message board) and seeing things like this really saddens me.

We've had two active school shooter situations in the last decade in my county...one involved a nut community college kid buying a gun and trying to kill his college professor. He actually fired off several rounds that nearly killed her before the gun jammed. The other involved a middle school student who brought a hunting rifle to school and pointed it at everyone in the schools office.

we had a police officer at our high school everyday. But no one would think it would be needed at an elementary school.

I know that this would be a concern...it would be to me too. But, it just seems like this is becoming more and more common. It scares the crap out of me having kids in school.

Yeah, maybe just a capable retired cop or something. Someone that can react when needed and give him a serious gun.
Or like they did on planes were you had an armed ranger but know one knew who he was. ie, a few teacher with military training and a few locked guns around the school at their disposal.

Simple solution to teachers having a fire arm in the classroom would be a safe that reads their finger print in order to open.
And also teaching kids gun safety and rules.
Instead of just letting then play with then on video games thinking they are going to shot someone and that they will get another life

This is going to sound really weird but if it were someone's intentions to kill everyone at the school, they could and without a gun. They could go into the lunch room and poison the food, unleash gas in the air vents, drive a truck full of bombs as kids loaded onto the school bus....and on and on. It is not the gun.

I can tell you from experience that if a kid wants to get a gun into school they will.
    In 1987 i was in 8th grade.
I was arrested for taking a gun away from a kid that brought it to school.
I took the gun from him and have it to a teacher. They called the police and we were both arrested.
All charges against me were dropped in court.
We want are kids to be free and feel like of the schools check them our have then walk through a metal detector that they are being violated. But at the same time how can we really prevent these things if we don't make it harder for them to do it

Very sad indeed. From what I've read on foxnews, it seems like a whole kindergarten class got killed or something like that. SMFH!! Knowing I have a daughter in K-class; they are defenseless and vulnerable to anything. What a f'n coward!

True, but they want to be notice, they want to feel power, this is what the gun gives them.

They want to get caught, they want to die, which is why we don't see the others methods you described. They are making this personnel and they want to look at the people they kill.
