It was last Thursday morning, day before gun season. I climbed the same tree I killed a great buck in last year (same day too). At first light, I hear deer running in the bottom below me, then grunting. Buck chasing a doe, then a couple minutes later, another buck in the chase but I can't see them. About an hour later a doe is slowly walking my way. I see a buck following, then another smaller buck. It's them! The doe is standing 5 yards from my tree, and she knows something ain't right. Now, they're all getting nervous, the smaller buck even stomping a couple of times. They all stood there for at least 10 minutes, looking around. They calm down, and the big one starts grunting, growling and snort wheezing. Wish I had it on video, it was unreal. Finally, the smaller buck starts getting closer, bringing the bruiser out to cut him off from the doe. Right into a shooting lane, and he's done. He's a nice 8 with a double throat patch, and he's going on the wall! Just then I looked in the field, and there's 2 bucks chasing 2 does all over the place. Just one of those mornings.
Nice job man, that's a super nice buck! I'd love to kill one with a double throat patch someday. I've always loved that look.
