I am 100% new to bowhunting, but I came across an app that has some deer calls on it. Has anyone ever tried to use it to call in a deer. Just type deer call into the search box in the android market. I honestly don't know how real the app sounds compared to a real call. Rob

I have the app, the sounds sound pretty real, I'd get a grunt tube and use the app to practice. Read up on calling, in most situations calling does more harm that good.

i tend to disagree with calling doing a lot more bad then good. I'm one who tends to do a lot of blind calling and i know that i have seen deer come in that way that otherwise wouldn't have. I believe if you don't blind call you miss on opportunities at bucks you may have had a chance at.. i believe calling being harmful is more of a myth i haven't spoked a deer by calling as far as I know but its all opinions right I might believe that because it works for me..

liwhitetail, I actually do agree with you on blind calling. I do it a fair amount and have success with it, I think you'll have more success calling when a deer is out of sight than when it is in sight, from my experiences. If a deer is within site when calling and you don't have either thick cover or a decoy, the deer isn't going to have the visual reenforcement to come your way. A lot has to do with your set-up. When a deer is in sight I've had better luck calling once it's again out of sight, they then have to come your way to investigate. It's amazing how well a deer can pinpoint a sound they hear. Each deer is different and each set-up is different. I remember when I first started calling almost every buck I saw I was calling to, some even when they were coming my way and wondered why they spooked, this was mostly in open hardwoods. Good luck!
