As I start to do my research on which illuminated nock to buy I realize that there are now 3 choices that I know of:

    Nockturnal...Lumenok...Carbon Express' Launchpad

It seems like there isn't one with the best of both worlds. I have an addiction to blue LED's so I want something in the blue color. But I also want the ability to replace the battery.

Are the batteries replaceable on the Carbon Express Launchpads?

The arrows I have today are Carbon Express Blue Streaks but I was also thinking about getting into some Easton FMJ's and not sure if that makes a difference.

Any help, feedback and photos of your set up would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

:rock:Yes, the title of this thread is a MetallicA reference!

I've tried lumanocks and nockturnals. The on off switch is easier on the lumanocks but they didn't fit tight in my arrows. The nockturnals fit better but the on off switch is kind of a pain in the butt, not a big deal pain, but not nearly as simple as the lumanock. All that said, I use the nockturnals. I have one that I have shot hundreds of times and it still works and is bright.

asking the question of Lumenok vs Nockturnal is like asking what brand of bow is better. You are going to get many different answers and many different opinions. Personally i shoot Lumenok because that's what my local archery shop sells and i like how easy they are to turn off. I'm sure people have their reasons for shooting Nockturnals. Just a matter of preference.

I just bought a 3 pack of red NockTurnal nocks. Have to say the first 2 shot great. The third arrow, when I shot it the nock went inside the arrow and exploded the LED inside the nock.
    Wasn't happy about that.

But the first 2 did exactly what they were supposed to do.
They are not a tight snug fit either and I don't like that either. Gonna try some tape...

Thank you all for your input! I didn't even know about firenocks.

What I found to be interesting was when I called Carbon express they said their red and pink have 9 hour battery life. Blue and green have 50 hours due to the frequency of the colors on the spectrum and the power it takes to create it. Pretty cool.

I have a lot of homework to do on the arrows and nocks...thinking I want FMJ's with some kind of illuminated nock.

I like the nockturnals, just wish the blue was a bit brighter. Where my stand is, I'm right on the edge of an open spot surrounded by THICK brush, so that could have something to do with that. No complaints on the red ones, though.

I shot firenocks when I used illuminated nocks. Never had one malfunction, and a 3 pack came with 3 practice nocks too.

for those of you who like the nockturnals you can check out these guys. Home i have ordered lots of knock from them and they all fit really snug. they operate exactly like the nockturnals. only draw back is the color options.

Firenock over 10,000 to choose from.

Firenock are actually mini missile systems.

Let me put out the list of what is inside a Firenock Hunting circuit, so you can understand how does it work.
    1) a 15 degree focus beam LED which is 11,000 LUX
    2) an acceleration switch that is 24K gold plated, laser welded. 65G at 3 degree with Beryllium Copper spring that is +/- 0.02mm on width and height for G-force +/- 5G. MTBF, 12,000,000 cycles. At single piece price which you can get form any major military contractor, it would be about $105.00 each. I design it myself and have a New Jersey Military contractor built it for me.
    3) a 3 stage fuzzy logic chip set that I use VLSI FAB with 0.02mm of silicon which is design by ON technology of Austin Texas, the 2011 IC_hunting Firenock actually lit 2,000 time per seconds on a 10,000 hertz so it only use 1/5 the power.
    4) a 15 degree motion sensor
    5) a 6 seconds digital counter
    6) a GR3 titanium 0.15mm wire that is 24K gold plated which require a 2 arms 5 axis robotic wire bending machine. That wire alone can sustain 80KgF before breakage
    7) a MIL Spec 24K 4 x 4oz pressure pin connector which is made in New York
    8) use wave soldering machine for bonding
    9) hand solder on 45% cross board components like Pin connector, wire connector, and acceleration switch for concentricity. No off the shelf machine I know of can do that yet.
    10) Loctite MIL spec UV cure Epoxy seal for salt water and moisture proofing, when used with our HYDRO system it is IPX8 water proof compliant (i.e submerge under 20 meter of salt water for 30 days with no ill effect)
    11) Ground fault subsystem,
    12) a static drain subsystem
    13) EMF shielding on IC to withstand the 2010 implemented new custom X-ray machine from frying the VLSI circuit.

This is how the system works. When you shot the arrow out of the bow, the 65G acceleration switch will wake up the logic system, which the light goes on, so does the 6-8 seconds counter. So for the first 6 seconds, the firenock cannot be shut off as it is doing the flight to the target and impact. Then the motion sensor kicked in to prevent it from shutting off it is lodged into an animal and moving. That is why unlike most other nock, Firenock do not shut off on impact as the motion sensor and digital timer keep kicking in to reset the system.

To shut off a Firenock hunting circuit, you need to hold the arrow motionless with the nock point down and wait 6 seconds and let the nock fall and make a hit. This process will first shut off the motion sensor first and open the 1st gate of the 3 stages logic system. When 6 seconds passes, the 2nd gate is also open; when the nock hit the surface after being drop from about 8 inches, -65G will be generated through the nock via action and reaction which open the 3rd gate. As all 3 gates open, the logic can be closed, the light is shut off.

If the circuit ever broke, or the logic system is compromise due to blood or circuit board crack, the ground faculty system will kick in and bypass the logic gates all together, which is why sometime when the system was soaked in blood, or cracked, the light can no longer be shut off even if you use the shut off sequence. The only way to reset the system is to take the battery off and let the system reset. if the circuit board is indeed cracked, our life time unconditional refresh policy kicked in. You just have to pay shipping and handling to get a new one.

When I started Firenock, I asked myself what I would want on a lifetime nock. No matter how much technology I put into it, I recognize that in hunting situation, nothing can be 100% . I finally convince myself, in order to do that, a life time refresh policy is the only way to offer a true life time product. You can read more about that on our Firenock warranty page.

As for the nock side, All Firenock polycarbonate nock is made of virgin Bayer Makelon using single cavity mould, 5 piece injection mould with +/-0.025mm tolerance.

If you have any friends in the high tech industry or have done military spec projects, show him/her the list and ask how much a system like Firenock would cost? FYI, the FAB alone is $70,000 a silicon waver! Below is a blow up picture of Firenock circuit front and back so you can share it with some one who know and get some real answers and see if it is worth over $20.00 each.

A Firenock 3 pack with extreme shock end cap and battery will run you about 70.00 with shipping in USA.

How many combination you can use with Firenock?
We have mathematical 51,000+ combination/. In actual it is more like 10,000 due to not all style have all colors and not all circuit have all the colors too. Below is the formation of the possibility of the combinations. Most have not seen many as one has to be trained pro shot to carry the full line (we have over 300 SKU and you can mix and match them to form more). Last time I check, there are less than 50 certified pro shop in the world. And there are only 300 dealer that carry Firenock in some shape or form. Not to mention you cannot get it in Box store or from distributor. Most customer purchase direct as beside really good dealer we are the only one seems to have everything.
