Last year I put much more emphasis on my entry/exit routes, and getting to stand earlier. I'm going to continue that this year, but I want to become better at finding bedding areas, and selecting places bucks use rather than "deer".... But my main emphasis will be on bedding areas. I really want to learn how to identify those, and hunt them smart. So we've talked about harvest goals, what are your tactical goals this year?
To shoot a buck so big that I won't know what to do.... And in the heat of the "hero shots"... Sit down indian style and gaze into his big fat gnarly rack in a trance like zone for photos obvious and not caring about how big of a donny wannabe and complete and total tool bag I look like.
Gonna try altering my entrance times and logging the differences in sightings ..... eg. # of deer, age of deer, etc.
Not hunting everyday like I have in the past in early October.... I want to cut back on early season stand time and try to capitalize more on weather patterns.
To relax this year. I've put so much time into hunting over the last few years it's crazy. I'm taking my time this year.. walking down that hill to boink all those cows.
To not educate the deer in my area as bad as I did last year. And put more and more emphasis on scent control.
