Well I'm back from my 12 days of hunting whitetails, damnit. Time to go back to work tomorrow. My sister has had my laptop for the last couple of weeks, hence my absence, as if ya'll were worried about it. Anyway.....

I wish I had more to report. I hunted a couple of days in Illinois with jmbuckhunter, and even though I told him, I hope he understands how much I appreciate his allowing me to hunt on his ground. I did see one absolute giant there....Thursday morning I think it was, but movement was pretty minimal. I grunted him to about 60 yards, but he didn't wanna leave his lady friend. I wasn't field judging so I don't know how big this deer was, but rest assured.....he was a true Illinois giant.

Then off to the farm for 8 days. Talk about el sucko. The weather turned hot, in fact it was 82* Saturday and Sunday......And it didn't cool off much the entire week. It was mid 60's to mid 70's all week. Deer movement shut down, completely. If we didn't see a deer by 8 am, we may as well head to the house. Even all the pictures we were getting were in the middle of the night. I gave up on deer hunting the evenings about mid week, and had a couple groups of turkeys patterned. I filled my second turkey tag of the fall on a pretty nice longbeard. Sorry, no pictures but he was around 20 #'s with a 9" beard. I shot him out of my ground blind, and that's just plain old fun right there.

In 8 days of hard hunting, I saw 5 freakin deer. 5. The only buck I saw was a Fergie Clause 6 pointer, which I easily could have killed if I wanted. My dad had some surgery Friday and my anniversary was Saturday, so I headed home Friday afternoon. My buddy stayed, and he called me at 9 Saturday morning. He shot a mid 120's out of my stand Saturday morning. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely elated for him. It's his biggest archery buck and I simply couldn't be happier. But.........part of me is a little......envious and slightly ticked. But not at my buddy, just at fate. Ya'll, it's been a really, really tough fall.

Between the lousy deer hunting and losing my grandmother, whom I was REALLY close to, the last week of October........it's been extremely difficult to remain focused.

But, what keeps me going is knowing how truly exciting it's going to be when I do finally kill one this fall. It'll happen, but our firearm season opened today so it gets nothing but more difficult from here on out.

So, there's my update. I hope everyone's season is going better than mine. I know I sound "woe is me'ish", and I am a little, actually. I'm pretty bummed about not connecting, or even really having the chance to, in 12 days of hard hunting.

That stinks about the weather, but hey, it seems you aren't alone during this weird year. Seems a lot of people are being skunked during this primetime.

For how tough the hunting was it still sounds like it was a good trip. Got to meet up with some good people and congrats on your turkey kill!
