Hoping to get to get out Sunday morning, goal is to shoot a doe if I get the opportunity. Starting to see a lot more buck activity on my cameras. The big ten still hasn’t been on any of my cameras but i know where he is bedding and don’t have cameras over there because i don’t want to push my luck yet. Lol good luck if any of you guys are going out this weekend!

Big congrats Logman! I’ve been out a couple more times. On stand now. Quiet morning so far surprisingly. Mostly doe and 2 year olds and younger moving lately. I’m off Wednesday through Sunday this coming week so should be getting out a fair amount.

Good luck all! Keep it rolling.

Here's the story of my buck.

It was only my 2nd sit of the season. My first sit was in the same blind with one of my 9 year-olds. We didn't see anything the first sit.

We have had this blind and trail camera set in this spot for three years. It is about 15 yards off of a trail that heads to crop fields from bedding and water. Historically, bucks seem to use this trail during the last week of October. After Halloween, it seems to be a doe dominated trail.

We have had different bucks coming through during daylight the last 4-5 days. The wind was right, so I headed to the blind for my 2nd sit. It was a beautiful night. The only things I was seeing were a bunch of different birds taking to each other and a coopers hawk flying about a foot over the blind.

There was about 35 minutes left of legal shooting time when I caught movement to my right. It was a deer. It paused in front of a very thick bush/ tree where the trail Y's. It bent down and looked down the left fork of the Y, and I saw it had antlers. A definite shooter for me. He then walked through the thick stuff down the right fork. Moving from my right to my left. I was ready to shoot when he cleared the thick stuff. He was walking. I decided not to try to stop him for fear of spooking him, being so close and on the ground. I shot when he cleared, not stopping him.

He was walking a little faster than I had thought, and my bolt hit further back than I wanted, but good height top to bottom. He took off with a tucked tail down the trail to my left. I didn't even get out of the blind to look for blood or my bolt until 30 minutes later. I couldn't see any blood on impact and couldn't see my lighted nock. I headed back to the truck to drop off some things and grab my flashlight. By that time, my dad (HuntinKB51 on team 2) was at my truck.

We head out to the point of impact. By that time, we could see my lighted nock way in the thick crap. I crawl to go get it. I could see some blood on the white vane, but the thick stuff had pretty much rubbed everything off of my bolt. We start walking down the trail and see a drop of blood about 10 yards away. Then another two drops about 5 yards from that. We head down the trail in search of more blood and find nothing. I was on my hands and knees looking and couldn't find any blood. I was getting really discouraged at this point and had actually started to look up a tracking dog in the area. As I kept going back to the last drop seen looking for different routes he could have taken, my dad went ahead, taking the same path a doe ran last year when he shot it from this blind. He didn't see anything and headed up to see if he crossed a gravel path the local gas company uses to access their stations. He couldn't see that he crossed the road, so he came back my way on a different trail.

All of a sudden, I hear my dad yell, "I found him!" I seriously thought he was messing with me, even though I know that he wouldn't do that to me knowing this would be my biggest buck of my life.

There he was about 60 yards from the shot in tall grass that they use for bedding. I ended up going through the last rib and obliterating the liver. We never found any more blood. Just those 3 drops.

I owe a HUGE thank you to my dad! I couldn't do it without you. Thank you! There is nothing better than walking up on your biggest buck of your life and spending that moment with the man that got you into hunting all those years ago.

Sorry for the long post..... I'm still super excited to have shot my biggest buck ever.

The trail camera pictures are from about 2 seconds before I shot him, and right after I shot him.
