What's amazing to me is that we are told we have a choice.
But in the end we can only pick from the people they tell us to pick from.
How many of you honestly feel that your one individual vote actually counts?
We have other countries blaming our gun laws on how bad it is in their country. Then our government apologized to them on or behalf.
I can't protect my family on a daily basis if i need too.
But i can re enlist and go protect other peoples families with the same lethal force if needed.
Ok I better stop now. I'm way too caught up in this and it's why i never want to talk politics

I live in Crook (cook) county Illinois.
Several years ago a girl i was dating rear ended a car. The guy got out kicked on her window and tried to hit her. I was following her in my Jeep. I jumped out and beat him pretty bad. I was arrested and charged with battery. I cost me a couple thousand dollars for an attorney to defend me. I won that case. Then I was sued and lost.
Maybe i shouldn't have beat him as bad as i did but it never would've happened if he didn't take the first steps he took.

But you still protected her. Certainly dealing with the courts was a bummer but you were still able to protect. That is my point, we can protect. We may still have to deal with the courts but we can protect our familys.

I do know the courts look kindly on subdueing a threat, it's the "beat him as bad as I did" where they get shaky. Can't say I would have done any different than you but the line between stopping the threat and punishing the threat is one we probably should try not to cross.

Bruce i agree but it did cost me my business because i had to sell it to pay the settlement.
On the other hand my freedom was not free and in all honesty i should never have been charged. But i was and he was sent to the hospital. On top of all of that she had to cover the damages to his car and he wasn't held responsible for even her window.
In Illinois we are not aloud to carry. Which means if we are out with our family we are not able to protect them with equal force if we are held at gun point for any reason.

I am not trying to argue but, if you had just stopped him from attacking her and then called the law do you still think the outcome would have tilted so much in his favor?

We can't carry in MD either (except for special circumstances) and I wish we could and would if we could but, with that said, I have never felt the need or wished I had a gun when I was out with my family. I am a firm believer in having and not needing instead of needing and not having but, I have not been in the position of needing in 30+ years of being in public with my family. That includes being in DC at various times alone and with family when there were 400+ murders a year there.

Your freedom was not free? Once you go past eliminating the threat to become a threat yourself, you no longer are operating on the "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness " ..... I love ya Michael, but your post has holes in it....

And like Bruce, I prolly would have done the same thing ... but it has nothing to do with our freedoms ... that's like killing someone who is walking down the street with a bag of skittles ......nevermind ;)

Let me give you a quick break down of the events.
He was at a red light my girlfreind at the time rear ended his car. He got out kicked in her window. At that time I jumped out of my jeep. He then proceeded to try to punch her in the head. At that time I grabbed his arm and swept him to the ground and told him to stay down. I turned to check on her and was hit in the side of the head. That is when i struck him. He fell back to the ground Again I told him to stay down that police were on the way. He got back up and swung at me again.which is when I locked his arm in an arm bar and dislocated his elbow. I asked him to stay back and not touch me again in return he tried to kick me several times resulting in me front kicking his knee and breaking it.
The only part I felt bad about was fracturing his teeth in the original stirke.
I was detained and charged because I was a trained fighter and ex military and I " should have been able to stop him with out hurting him".
Now please keep in mind this man was drunk and never charged with anything at all.
So to sum it up no preacher tony I did not have a chance to walk away from it .
These days i honestly keep my hands in my pockets and try my hardest to stear clear of any and all trouble.
Sorry RC did'nt mean for this to jack your thread.

Definitely sounds like a raw deal. The only thing I would feel bad about is losing in court to that guy.

    It is what it is.
All im saying is that we never now what will happen to us when we do protect ourselves, families, or others in need of it.
I wish the man no ill will for his actions but for them to tell me I should have stopped him with out hurting him was a real slap to the face.
I really do not know where our country will end up in the near or far future but having to little girls that mean the world to me and having friends with families like all of you it scares the hell out of me.
