I started hunting about 3 years ago. And all the times I've hunted I've never had a deer walk within shooting range, but I've kept at it and remained paitent. My buddy and I sat up on the ground yesterday evening over a water hole on an old reclaimed strip mine and started waiting. (Yesterday was the season opener here in KY) We ranged some of the places that we thought a deer might come and stand. Hadn't been there maybe 15 minutes when a doe walks in and sniffs around a little bit. I thought we were busted but she kept sniffing around with her nose on the ground and presented a perfect broadside shot at 40 yards. So I drew and settled my 40 pin on her and got ready to shoot when I heard my buddy whisper "30 yards" so I dropped my 30 pin on her heart and let the arrow go. It shot under her and hit the dirt. Come to find out she was standing at 43 yards and before I shot he had tried to range her and make sure, but instead of getting the deer the rangefinder picked up the top of a blade of grass and gave us a bad reading. It was a bummer, but it wasn't my fault that I missed. Just blessed to be able to take my first shot at an animal with my bow! Sorry for the long post, just figured I'd share with you guys.
Keep at it man itll happen.....one thing i do when i get to a spot is range a bunch of trees and stuff as markers so i have an idea how far any shots could be
We actually done that. And I had my 40 yard pin on her and he tried to range again and told me 30 yards. But it was still a great experience. Thanks man.
Keep at it, one of these days you WILL connect on a deer!! Welcome to the site, hang in there, your day is coming..
Awesome man. You're braver than I am. It's nasty hot out. I'm gonna wait till it cools. Don't worry, season just started.
It definitely is hot man. Thankfully a little storm front rolled through yesterday evening around the time we set up and cooled down a little bit. This evening is a different story though. It's blazing hot.
