I haven't seen a thread for all us "amateur" hunters (non-prostaff) where we can post a pic of our deer? I know there are a bunch of hunters with pics that don't make the last 3 seconds of a BHOD episode...I love that segment. Maybe some other hunters want to share...Maybe some prostaff with a great deer that didn't get airtime?

On my little 40 acre farm in southern mid-michigan, I shot management bucks & does for years before finally getting a chance at a buck I wanted on my wall...Now I'm back to management & happy! (It surprised me how bad I felt taking this deer out of my heard)

Great buck. It has to be good feeling after all the time and work put in on it. Congratulations.

I love to hear about hunters being successful on small acreage. Some folks will tell you that can't be successful hunting small pieces of ground, but I don't agree with them. Do we all want access to 500+ acres of prime hunting ground? Sure, but most of us don't have that opportunity so we make the best out of what we have. These bucks were all taken on my 40 acres.

Thanks. Combination of hard work, persistence, constant improvement and luck have allowed me the opportunity to harvest mature deer off my property. That and the willingness to let them walk over the years.

    Great bucks guys!
Most of my deer are killed on small acreage pieces... less than 20 acres that I can hunt... some surrounded by larger pieces. I am far from a trophy hunter, but have been blessed and lucky enough to take a few very nice bucks on these small pieces, along w/ numerous mature bucks for my area in New England.
I shot this buck this past season on an 8 acre piece I have permission on. . However, it abuts a ton of posted property.

I shot this buck on a private 5 acre piece a couple of years back, again, surrounded by a large piece of posted property

I have shot a couple of other very nice bucks on larger pieces as well. It's not often I get a true mature "book" deer on camera on the properties I can hunt. Occasionally one cruises through, but a 100" buck is a BIG deer for the areas I hunt.

I find buck kills of this size in the northeast fascinating!!

To me It's the same as someone in the Midwest shooting a 200" buck.
You Midwest guys have no idea how lucky you are!! At least our football team is amazing!

That sure is true Swamp! I have had people ask me why I would shoot a "immature 100" deer" in the past on some forums. Most 100" deer out here get put on the wall by most! And rightfully so! Esp w/ the bow!
It's all relative. I certainly think a P&Y buck here in New England is very similar to shooting a Booner in the Midwest... size comparing that is... A true "Booner" out here is unheard of and makes the papers!

Western MA Hunter, those are great deer anywhere! Our deer in Michigan are more like yours...It's very hard to get them 4 & older, but even then, the genetics aren't quite like Iowa/Illinois/Kansas. Great job

My family owns a 4-acre piece. Have yet to kill a buck off it, but my cameras tell me some good ones do pass through.

My small pieces are all wooded... No food plots or anything... some hay fields and corn fields not too far away. Lots of oaks.

My 40 acres that I owned was 30% swamp ( hence the screen name) not standing water swamp, but big nasty bushy in penetrable soaked ground type of swamp. The rest was hardwoods, oaks, and I had cleared an area the size of a football field with intention of putting in food plots. But we were forced to sell that about a year ago when I had my health issues.

these are the types of deer i was seeing,

Every time I see comments from people who live East/South/West which indicate the entire Midwest is crawling with 170-200 inch bucks I just have to shake my head. I think some people watch too many hunting shows.

Yep. I've been fortunate over the last few years to take some nice bucks, but I have yet to see a 170+ on the hoof or on my trail cameras on my property. There are pockets in my area that hold bucks of that caliber, but it typically takes some larger blocks of timber to hold them.

OK maybe I'm taking this post completely wrong, if so I apologize in advance for being rude.

Keep shaking your head, No I have not watched to many hunting shows.
I have hunted in the Midwest, it is a fact and I can't believe I actually have to explain this to you, that there are more/and bigger bucks in the Midwest, then in the New England area. I don't know where you see that we said the Midwest is crawling with 170 inch and 200 inch deer.

Are you not able to comprehend what was said in the post?

OK now pay attention please I will explain.

What was stated was that here in the Northeast, bucks in the 130 to 140 class, are equivalent to bucks in the 170 to 200 inch range in the Midwest. Meaning it happens but not everyday.
