It really wasn't that hard. I bet you just sit around all day waiting to cause trouble around here. Get a life.
You seem to be under the assumption that people would take the time to create a fake ID for voting purposes. While it may happen, it requires a LOT more time and money than waltzing in saying I'm Mike Hunt and signing on the dotted line. As for the projections of voter ID costs, it is bogus. The same free labor sitting there collecting signatures can look at a picture ID just the same. It's silly to assume they need new voting machines that scan ID's for you.
To answer the original question, no I don't think we should restrict voting to only those that pay taxes. I lean pretty hard to the right in 90% of things, but I also believe that every US citizen should have a fair opportunity to express their views and vote. With that said, I'm 100% on board with an ID process to protect the integrity of the voting process. If you need an ID to buy alcohol, tobacco, or a firearm or to even board a plane or sign up for the military......then yes, I feel it's only fair to ask for it in the voting process as well. I don't share this with a lot of people, but as a kid I was raised by a single mom from about 9 y/o to 15 y/o. She went to school full time, worked full time, and raised two rotten kids by herself. She never took a handout in the process, but there were times when we were really close to needing it. If she was in that position where she had to take the assitance, I just can't see her not having the ability to vote. There are people that go through rough times that need the help and then end up in a better position in life. I think their input is valuable and they should have the ability to help steer the direction of our country.
Read this a while back and this thread reminded me of it again: "A perfect democracy, a ‘warm body’ democracy in which every adult may vote and all votes count equally, has no internal feedback for self-correction. It depends solely on the wisdom and self-restraint of citizens… which is opposed by the folly and lack of self-restraint of other citizens. What is supposed to happen in a democracy is that each sovereign citizen will always vote in the public interest for the safety and welfare of all. But what does happen is that he votes his own self-interest as he sees it… which for the majority translates as ‘Bread and Circuses.’ ‘Bread and Circuses’ is the cancer of democracy, the fatal disease for which there is no cure. Democracy often works beautifully at first. But once a state extends the franchise to every warm body, be he producer or parasite, that day marks the beginning of the end of the state. For when the plebs discover that they can vote themselves bread and circuses without limit and that the productive members of the body politic cannot stop them, they will do so, until the state bleeds to death, or in its weakened condition the state succumbs to an invader—the barbarians enter Rome.” Robert Heinlein Another good one: "The best argument against democracy is a 5 minute conversation with the average voter." Winston Churchill
If you really want to give it much thought all you have to do is go to your local "Stop and Rob" and count the number of people that stop for a pack of smokes and a scratch off lottery ticket. Those are voters! And its a long deep shot, right up the middle, it looks like that ones outta here!
It most be fun to stand high above people and look down on them, conservatives make the best christians.
Probably the same brushed used to say most inner city people on government assistance are cheating the system.
He post a lot like another guy here, but there are a bunch of die hard republicans around here and he could be any one of them. Just trying to start something is my guess.
You wrong. If you only allowed those who paid taxes to vote..... well, it's almost socialism. Besides that, there are a lot of people who do a lot of good that probably end up at the end of the year without paying taxes. Say someone with a half dozen kids. LOL How about the old who now find themselves not paying taxes but did while you were just a gleem in your mommas eyes. What about layoffs and illness with no income or not enough to have to pay taxes. Besides that, it's not the American way. Rich or poor..... we all get a vote. That way you can't crap on one piece of society and get away with it for long.
Keep bashing christians, pal. We'll see how that works out for you. You could benefit from some time in a church. Being that I am a christian though I don't hate you. I'll pray for you.
If it happens once, it's too much right? Again, I ask why is it so much to ask to see an ID? I have to show an ID if I wish to buy alcohol or cigarettes.
Its been a few weeks since I've been here, where is Rancid anyway? He wasn't here long but already easy to notice he's not here.
