New member here with a question. I just got my new bow and custom built arrows. Here are my specs: Diamond Fugitive, 6.5" brace height 70 lb draw weight 26.5" draw length 26" arrow length 100 grain tip (NAP Thunderhead broadheads) Gold Tip Pro Hunter 5575 with 2" blazers Total arrow mass 358 grains 5.1 grains/lb The spine charts say I should be shooting 7595's. Am I right on the threshold where the 5575's will work or are they underspined? Maybe ok at this short arrow length? Any help is MUCH APPRECIATED. Thanks! Jon
I wouldn't say you are under spined, based upon the arrow sizing charts I saw. However, I would question whether or not you have enough arrow mass coming out of your bow. Most bow manufacturers have a required minimum arrow weight. To shoot anything less than this minimum would void your bow's warranty. You might be putting your limbs under an enormous amount of stress. They may not last very long....consult with Diamond.
I personally would opt to be slightly overspined than underspined if you're right on the threshold. Get it paper tuned. If you're unsure how we can easily help, or go to the easton archery website and in their downloads they have their "tuning guide". Like Will said though, manufacturers have a minimum grain per pound. Most all are at 5.0 grains/lb so you're very close to that line. Most pros will recommend 6-8 grains per pound. Personally, this is something I'm giong to change on my setup as I'm only slightly above where you're at.
Absolutely incorrect!! That statement is downright dangerous in a lot of cases! I'm thinking that the total arrow mass you listed does not include the head weight. If it does, see Will's post above. Not only might you be endangering your bow you're shooting an arrow that's so light that I would never hunt with it. 458 grains is more what I'd be wanting.
Thanks guys. 358 grains is the total arrow weight, including the 100 grain broadhead. It comes out to 5.1 gpp. According to the bow manufacturer, anything less than 5 gpp will void the warranty. The proshop set my arrows up very light and close to the 5 gpp minimum but I guess technically ok. I even asked them to build the arrows at 6 gpp minimum (didn't happen!).
Always better to lean to the stiff side. That cam on that bow is pretty hard as well. I'd definitely go stiffer if it was me.
As, Rob (Kodiak) said, I'd question your shop!!! Drop your DW down to around 64# though, and you should be good to go.... Gonna loose a little speed, but accuracy is far more important than speed anyhow!!! As that set-up is, you're pretty significantly underspined. At 64#, you're on the low border of acceptable. Hope that helps.
Spine Stupid question, I have a 27'' draw length and 28.5'' easton nfused axis arrows, shooting out of a mathews z7 xtreme maxed out at I believe 70 pounds. The shaft selector says i should be shooting 340's but I use the 400's, it paper tuned fine and it is accurate. Does anyone see a problem with this or is it okay to continue shooting them?
I shoot Gold Tip Hunter 5575s with 100 grain tips out of my 29'' draw length, 65 lb bow and they seem good. 29 in arrow I think?
