Who thinks these guys are reaching?

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7379325/ex-rbs-jamal-lewis-dorsey-levens-sue-nfl-concussions

They had fame, fortune, both played on Super Bowl winning teams and now they are crying about injuries and side effects. Soldiers don't cry because they get shot at, Cops don't cry because they deal with criminals, fireman don't cry because of there bad lungs and EMT's don't cry for there back injuries (just to name a few).

Football players crying because of there "side effects" get no remorse from me. THATS THE JOB YOU SIGNED UP FOR :bash:

Hmmm...kind of on the fence about this issue. I don't think your analogies makes sense here, though. The players are citing the poor handling of their injuries, not the injuries themselves. Thats different.

But it comes with the territory. They chose to play a game where you hit people. Regardless, these guys are just trying to cash in now is all...

I don't disagree that are just trying to cash in. Thats the foundation for many lawsuits. Lawsuit or not, I kind of think they have a legit gripe with how injuries were handled. Thats assuming what they say is true. If they were cleared to play too soon after a concussion, that is very dangerous. And if they were cleared to play, they had to play and/or wanted to get back out there...based on the team's/physician's negligence.

The reason why I'm on the fence about this is because I don't know what the team physicians knew about concussions back then. If they had the information, and misused it, then I think there is a problem.

Not sure about Lewis but Dorsey Levens was subjected to living in Green Bay for how many years, now that had to mess his head up.

    Har Har.

Vito, do you really think that trainers knew about the long term side effects then?

I'm not sure. I would like to know that info before taking a stance on this. Some of the players named weren't playing all that long ago. We certainly didn't hear as much concern over concussions while they were playing though.

    .

I think this says it all. The league simply didn't know the long term effects of concusions imo. Im assuming there is a bunch of legal mumbo jumbo in their contracts too. Not sure the x players have a leg to stand on. Hell some of the stuff I've been spraying for a long time at the golf course probaly took years off my life and effects when I get older (errrrrrr... maybe setting in already?). I take more precautions than ever now knowing what I know.

If that is the case, then I agree, the players shouldn't be suing.

I think that is the case. You can't know about long term effects until there is long term effects. Since cases of NFL players suffering from such effects started coming to the forefront the league has acted appropriately IMO. If anything I applaud them for handling concussion cases the way they do now. And it's due to what they know NOW. The x players that are suffering from their injuries now are victims of lack of knowledge and that really is too bad. But the league is doing everything they can to prevent that in the future knowing what they know now. No way they can be held accountable for something they were oblivious to.
