LOL Donnie.. Pat, I came REAL close to laying those in a climber that someone came in and attached to the bottom of a tree within 75 yards of where I killed my buck last year... I shot him, pretty well knew he was down but still wanted to give him some time. As I was easing out of the woods, I came upon two yahoos walking in and I stayed out of sight as I watched them attach the climber and leave. I wheeled my buck out right beside the stand, and I actually thought of leaving his balls on their seat as a present for the hunter the next morning... One, just to say "Hello", and two... to let him know I'd already killed the buck. I decided not to even let them know I was back there.
I learned this about 10 years ago hunting northern WI with a group. They were/are called the Bucknuts Camp 63. I could not figure out what the hell one of them was doing when he tied the nut sack to a nearby tree. Jimmy responded "that's how we do it up here FIB!" For those of you who do not know what a FIB or a FISH is I will let you in on a little (not really little) secret. F-ing Illinois Bastard for FIB and F-ing Illinois Sh*t Head for FISH!! Being that I had been living in WI for 5 years I was a little offended until he pointed to my Chicago Bears license place cover over my WI license plate later that day. I have kept this tradition in my hunts since then in both SW WI and IL and have gotten numerous curious stares from hunting partners ever since!! Nice to see that someone else does this Pat!!
Thanks glad I'm not the only one :D Other classics are FIB TAB (towing a boat) and FIB TAC (towing a camper)
Definitely a Wisco thing. Though we don't tie them to a branch, we usually toss them over a shoulder and try to them them stuck in a branch. If they fall, we pick them up and hang them in the branches.
i also hunt in Northern Wisconsin and not only is good luck to hang them but its BAD luck not to hang them lol :p
I'm from Wisconsin..and I wonder how this "tradition" was started....??? My father tought me to do this when I was 13 and been doing it ever since...lol. He said it was for luck..and its like someone else here said. We throw them up into the tree branches to try and get them wrapped up but if they fall we set them in the branches. HMMM. It is very strange that people from all over my state do this.
I am in WI and i know many people who toss them over their should and if they stick in a tree it is supposed to be good luck I do not not pratice this ritual however.
